In Connie and Eliza's hutch, there is a piece of wood that seperates the sleeping compartment from the living compartment. Ever since I have had Connie, she has chewed this piece of wood. Eliza has started doing it as well and now there isn't much of it left in the middle  98) I am a little concerned though because there are some jagged edges and I don't want them to hurt themselves. Any suggestions on how to stop them doing this? Granted it is doing their teeth good, but why do they insist on chewing their house when they have wooden toys in there to gnaw on  98)

I don't know how to stop them doing this. Basil is always chewing his wooden cottage and we just let him get on with it. Eventually we'll get him a replacement, but in the meantime I convince myself it's good for his teeth. The girls chew they hayballs to bits eventually, too.

Yes i have the same problem, brought them toys etc and they still chew there hutch

I think you can get anti chew sprays for animals, although you obviously wouldn't spray them round the pigs. Don't know if these are suitable for pigs though

what would happen if you took the wood out? you could try a squirt gun of water or perhaps put something in front of the wood like a bed or toys. but i think they are telling you to remove it. hoping that they don't get splinters. :o :o :o sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

All my Guineas chew their hutchs, have tried giving alternatives.... log chews, popcorn sticks etc, they still chew!

My lot chew their hutches too. I've tried giving them apple logs, willow balls (they do demolish these too ;D), and all manner of other wooden items and they turn their noses up ay these and still chew ............ yes you've guessed it, their hutches! ;D I've given up, although it is quite upsetting when they set about a new hutch for the first time!

Chewing hutches seems to be a favourite past time for piggies. Mine chew not the hutch but the little houses we built to keep them warm and hidden. Some of the houses just don't look the same anymore but are still useable. When the edges get too rugged I sandpaper them down - ready for the next attack!
