You need to get him to a vet as soon as possible.
He will need antibiotics, and the vet can show you how to flush the abscess and care for it properly.

Once you have seen a vet if you have specific questions you can ask them here, as there are lots of people who have experience with this, and will be able to help you help Patches get better.

Have you been to the vet?

They'll give you any relevant medication like pain relief and antibiotics. They'll also drain it if needed.

Yes I have. They gave me antibiotics. We're trying to drain it but nothing coming out.:(

Hi! Please have the abscess seen by a vet promptly!

Depending on where it sits, it needs lancing/draining or - if it is sitting deeper inside the body - operating out. In the latter case, the normal post-op care rules apply.
Tips For Post-operative Care

Any abscess near the surface that has been lanced and stitches open needs regular flushing and being kept open for as long as possible, working off the scab daily to allow it healing from the inside out and any infectious gunk to come out, which takes time. Your vet will prescribe an antibiotic to help fight the infection; ideally a strong one, especially if the abscess has really blown up. Please make sure that he also prescribes a painkiller.

When have you seen the vet? What are you flushing the abscess with? Caan you smell the abscess? That means that it is still open. There is not necessarily thick pus coming out.

We went to the vet yesterday we are flushing it out with warm water.

Please flush with saline solution for disinfection to help get on top of the abscess. You can get it either sterile in the pharmacy or make it at home by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into 1/2 pint of boiled, cooled/hand-warm water.

Where is the abscess sitting and do you know what has caused it? How big is it?

On his throat. He got in a fight its about a half inch.

Just keep going, make sure that you remove any scab. Have a smell at the fluid that is coming out. The smell of an abscess is unmistakeable even if it looks like nothing much is happening. The longer you can keep it open, the better!

Just been through it twice with my Hywel, whose dental root abscess has unfortunately gone into the jawbone. :(

What antibiotic and dosage are you on?

Ouch not fun hope Hywel will get better soon.

Thanks - he is just at the end of his second throat abscess (and his fourth overall).

My Bedo ended up with an abscessed bite after he managed to invade Maelog's groups cage one early morning (both boars are neutered); it was about your boy's size and healed off well within about a week. ;)
You can stop working the scab off after there has no pus sitting underneath it for a day.
