My guinea pig is obviously expecting - i think judging by her size that she is due any time now! She currently lives in an aviary - this is mostly outdoor, with a cut through to her bedding area which is within the garage. Just to see if she is best being left to have her babies in her natural environment (i.e. her bed within the garage) or whether I should take her out of there and put her in her large guinea pig cage alone (until the young are born and raised)?

She currently lives with a male guinea pig and a small young rabbit.

Any advice would be greatly received.

thanks:{

:)phi, does she drink alot, is she pear shaped , and is she harder round the womb, just one more, is she very slow at the moment?!?! then if she is then she is expecting very soon(next week..?).
good luck and good bye!

Lots of people will probably respond, but I'd say definitely to take the rabbit away from her. Guineas and rabbits should not be kept together. Its dangerous for both of them. Is the male guinea neutered?

welcome to the forum,is the male neutered,if not she most probably will be pregnant. ? lots of people disagrea with guinea/rabbit co-habitation, as guinea pigs are often injured and some times killed even by accident also they require different diets. Her accomadation sounds fine you could put some pigloos in the outer area to provide extra shelter.
good luck with her
:)

Please seperate her away from the rabbit as soon as possible, its not ideal to keep guineas with rabbits for alot of reasons, but the main one is that rabbits can get playful and kick out and all it takes is 1 playful kick to seriously hurt or even kill a guinea.

If the male guinea isnt neutured then he needs seperating as well.

How old is the female?

Before she is due she will get really fat. I mean literally hours before, she will expand! Mirtle did. Take her out now and put her in a secure environment. My Mirtle would have had her babies earlier if I had shut the door on her hutch. basically keep a check on her and let her get on with it. It's an awsome experience to go through. Watching babie piggies moving after only being 30 minutes old was amazing.

Have a look at the pregnancy section. There are several useful sticky threads at the top.

I also recommed to keep your rabbit separate from the guinea pigs!

Even if your male is neutered, you will have to take him out before birth, as the last thing exhausted mummy will want to have round her heavily pregnant body and little babies is a randy male, since a sow becomes fertile again within hours of giving birth.
Little males can make babies from 3 weeks onwards or as soon as they start rumbling/sticking their nose up mummy's bottom. They can go in with daddy, if necessary, especially if you only get one boy. Little girls can get pregnant from 4 weeks onwards, but they can stay with mummy.

All the best to your girl!
