Hi my name is Amanda and my guinea pig is having a change in how her poop looks. I noticed this today when brought my 2guineas to eat some grass and i saw that her poop was getting everywhere (the blankets, my hand, her butt). Her poop isnt a normal hard poop, its becoming more smudged and soft. I would call it diarrhea but i don't know how it looks like. I really am scared because i don't want to spend alot of money for a vet. I have been giving her lettuce, carrots and cucumber daily, i have 2 guinea pigs but only one of them seem to be having this problem. What do i do to make her feel better and help her get rid of it?

The first thing you can do is stop all veg, fruit and fresh grass for 24 hours.
Literally she should only be eating hay and nuggets.
Check she has plenty of fresh water available and see if that helps.
Sometimes guinea pigs can get soft poops when they have too much fresh fruit and veg, and things like lettuce in particular should only be fed in small amounts.

If she seems happy within herself and is still eating and drinking then hopefully removing all the fresh food from her diet for a couple of days should give her stomach a chance to settle.
However if it continues for more than 24 hours or she seems listless, ill or in pain then she should see a vet asap.

Please stop all fresh veg and do not re-introduce them slowly and gradually until 48 hours after the poos have been firm. If the poo does not firm up again over the course of the next 24 hours, you will need to see a vet promptly, as you are dealing with a potentially serious issue.

If your guinea pig has a black stinking fluid diarrhea, then you need to see a vet as a life or death emergency asap.
Guinea Lynx :: Diarrhea

Step in with syringe feeding if your guinea pig has lost its appetite and is losing weight. Also syringe water, as much as she will take to prevent dehydration, which is always a problem with diarrhea.
our illustrated step-by-step guide contains tips on what you can do with what you have got at home for supportive care and to keep the guts from closing down, but it does NOT replace a vet visit; it will help to keep your guinea pig alive, but it cannot heal.
Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Please set aside an amount of money for vet care each week, so you can pay a vet whenever necessary. Illness NEVER comes at a good time. It is unfortunately very cheap to buy a guinea pig, but not cheap to provide the necessary vet care, which most guinea pigs require some time in their life.

Here are our tips for a balanced diet; yours is too high in vitamin a, but does not contain any veg or herb with a high vitamin C level nor a veg with magnesium: Recommendations For A Balanced General Guinea Pig Diet
