hi guys just wanted to share my story about my guinea pig and well his weird shape. About 2 months ago I noticed as my guinea pig was going into adult hood he was forming a weird shape on the bottom half of his body, at first I just thought it was due to weight gain, but I thought I’d take him to the vets to make sure. They had a feel around the lumps and bumps and he wasn’t bothered by them doing so and the vets couldn’t feel a thing but decided it was a good idea to give him an X-ray to make sure, his x Ray was abouslety clear, no blockages, no massives of gas, or tumours and he’s always been a happy man, so the vets and I decided it was probably the best idea to just accept that it’s probably just his shape. He still has his weird back end shape lol what do you guys think? Like I said he’s perfectly happy within him self, He’s very mischievous and has little popcorn fits lol, just thought I’d ask what you guys thought on his shape

Trying to get a clear picture is kinda hard because he won’t stay still but this is how it looks head on

Well at first glance I thought he might have been a she and could have been pregnant! But that would definitely have shown up on the X-ray  He is adorable :luv:

Lol the first thing the vet checked was if he was a she and could be pregnant , but he’s a boy and has a massive belly lol, but he isn’t over weight he’s 1,300g which I think it’s about right for a male boar :) just really hard to understand why he’s that shape lol

Lol! Willis is just under a year old, he’s finally settling down all he ever used to do is rumble strut with his big weird shaped belly and wiggle his booty at my other boar , Then when my other boar used to show him who’s boss Willis would run off lol x

He looks okay to me, he looks like an abyruvian the fur sticks out at the side and makes them look wide at the back. I've just tried to find a photo of my Bracken from a similar angle but typically I can't find one!

We thought that but it’s not his fur it’s sort of ‘podge’ I suppose lol, but it’s as if all his fat just sticks to that one area lol, the vets said theyve never seen anything like it before lol , they even asked for a second opinion of another vet and he was also clueless as the x Ray doesn’t show anything x

I guess perhaps piggies vary as much as humans in shape and size?! I have one piggy that has a completely different body shape to the rest....very long and narrow at the head end... long and narrow in the middle....and rather round and wide at the other! :)

The vet said if I wanted to go down the road of taking him to a different vet for a second opinion I could but I came to the conclusion there wasn’t much point as they x Ray showed nothing bad, and as you said guinea pigs vary in size and shapes and he’s a happy little man , but he gets so nervous being handled and hates the vets so don’t see the point in putting him through that when he’s perfectly happy

Hi!

Your boy has the normal wedge-shaped body form that is typical for an abyssinian. He looks like an aby/peru cross ('abyruvian') to me. Crosses can look very similar to either parent or be anything weird and wonderful in between. Yours is certainly quite striking!
The bum shape is genetically determined, depending on the breed.

Hi
I have a female guinea on loan at the moment to keep my old guinea company and she is exactly the same shape! She is around 2 years old and the rescue lady we got her from wasn't sure of her past. She reckoned it may be due to bad feeding and lack of exercise? We took her to a really good vet (one experienced in guinea pigs). He too examined her and could find absolutely nothing wrong. She loves her food and is incredibly happy and healthy in all other repsects. Vet concluded that it was just her shape!Nutmeg.webp

Awww what a beautiful baby! Yeah my vet said does my guinea pig get Excersize as it could be muscles , but he has a 6 by 2 cage and has at least an hour floor time a day so deffo just his shape x
