So i have had my guinea pig for about 4 months now, and about two weeks ago, he had a very large bump on his chin, so i took him to the vet and they said it was an abcess and also noticed he had guinea pig lice. So they give him a shot for the lice then gave me three different meds that i had to give to him about two times a day for about 10 days then they would surgically remove the abcess. So a couple days after the vet visit. I had him in my lap and all of a sudden its like his abcess popped and I'm gonna say about half a cup full of greenish creamy puss squirted out at once all over me and his bump was no longer there. So for a couple days i cleaned where the bump was everyday and now there is a scab from where the puss leaked. ( the puss was the worst smelling thing ever!) I figure he wouldnt have to get the 300$ surgery any more . So i didnt take him but it seems like ever since i been giving him meds he doesnt poop. There was little tiny hard poops (not alot) in his cage, smaller then a bb. So i clean his cage, put new food and everything. It seems like hes kind of eating the food but there hasnt been any poop in his cage since the day i cleaned it, yesterday. I give him romain lettuce and carrots and he eats all of that with no problem. But no poop. When i look at his genatils , they look wierd and kind of swollen and when i try to touch it to get a better look he squeaks and i feel bad. :( i feel so helpless and dont want him to be in any pain :/ i feel like everything is just going wrong for him :/ and my family doesn't have much money for the vet :// does any one know whats wrong with him?

This could be any number of things - intolerance to the medication you have been giving which has caused anorexia, or upset the good bacteria in his stomach; possible infection; gut stasis/bloat.

This really cannot be diagnosed over the internet. A guinea pig that is not eating or pooing, and is visibly in pain, needs to be seen by a vet immediately. Please take him. I understand if money is an issue, but he shouldn't be left to suffer in pain.

Yeah i probaly have to. Another thing i forgot to mention is he (gibson is his name) had a buddy/roomy named Comet which is really my bros gp but the roomed together, and after he got the lice shot, my brother keeps delaying on getting his getting his guinea pig the lice shot, so they been desperate from each other for about 3 weeks now, do you think depression can be a thing?

Yes, guinea pigs that have a close bond can become very sad if separated. However, the lack of poos and the pain is almost certainly something more than this.

I agree with Jerrybelly, he really does need to see a vet.

I know in humans, its bad, can be dangerous if a mouth abscess burst. Needs vet

Would definitely try & get him to a vets sooner if you can, the quicker he's sorted the less chance of complications cropping up ,causing you unnecessary extra expense.

Does he have any signs of impaction too? (his soft poos being stuck) could be making his harder poos more difficult to expel.

A probiotic would probably help if he's eating to help his gut work more effectively, but he may have a blockage which is causing lack of poops,
pain relief may be required too if he still has some infection in his abcess cavity, sometimes they need to be kept open to drain out the remaining pus.:vom:

Please try & get your brothers piggy a lice jab too, as the separation from each other may also be causing him to be depressed &have a slight loss of appetite too, which won't help his body heal as quickly if he's stressed.

:wel:Welcome to the forum too by the way.

Healing vibes to your piggy. xx

oh & if you could put your general area or country where you live that would help people give you advice relevant to your location (go to your account settings & add from there) Thank-you.

Gibson should definitely see a vet. In the meantime a probiotic such as Avipro Plus of Bio-Lapis would help as would a supplement such as Fibreplex. If you're in the UK you can get these from Vet UK as they aren't prescription drugs.
