Hello if anybody out there can help me it would be greatly appreciated,
I noticed today my guinea pig Gerald has not been using his two back legs he drags his legs to move around he's also lost some weight, I thought it might have been because his nails were over grown so I trimmed his nails, but still has not used them. He eats perfectly fine, doesn't drink much water. I recently changed his pellets but I don't know if they could be the problem. thank you for your time

Please go to a vet asap and get him checked it doesn't sounds good was he the same when u bought him or he started doing this after u brought him home?

I’ve had him for for almost 4 months he’s been fine up until today And thank you I will definitely take him to the vet

I highly doubt that it's the pellets causing the problem but fingers crossed it's just a small strain that will improve quickly with the right treatment. We have a vet locator on here if you don't know of a good cavy savvy vet in your area

Hi!

Please see a vet as soon as possible. Back leg paralysis can have many causes, and they are not connected to nail cutting or dietary changes.

Here is our guide on guinea pigs with mobilty issues. It contains a list of potential causes to consider with your vet based on their findings. Treatment very much depends on the diagnosis. The guide also contains care tips to prevent urine scald and sores from stationary piggies.
Looking after guinea pigs with limited or no mobility

Please be aware that your piggy may be struggling to reach the bottle. offer them water by syringe but only as much as they are willing to drink. Over-hydration can be as dangerous than dehydration.
