Hi all,

I'm a bit worried about my Aspen. She's usually a great wee eater and will give her big brother a nip if he try's to steal her food.

Just lately however, she seems to have gone off things she usually loves-like red pepper and her treat biscuits.

Sometimes she will scoff parsley or coriander like it's going out of fashion and other days she's not interested. She never says no tomatoes or romaine lettuce though.

She's not lost any weigh and I'm not concerned enough to take her to the vet yet but it's strange. She has taken a liking to eating the cardboard out her tube which is strange!

Anybody put their had a similar experience or theories for her fussiness?

My other half suggested she might be full but I have never once witnessed my piggies turning veggies down!

I would get a quick teeth check possibly at the vets. Any Mastication when eating? Is food going in slower than usual compared to other piggies? We noticed Cookies dental issues start when the girls could eat one piece of coriander to her one only a slight slowness but it then built up. Do you have a cavy savy vet?

No mastication when eating- she doesn't eat any different. She does eat slower than Mali (my neutered Boar) but always has done since he is a greedy git. She eats lettuce quickly cos she loves it.

I did think it might be her teeth- her front ones look just like Mali's. Could her back ones cause this's problem? She lets me look in her mouth so I will check her molars. Anything I should look for?

Maybe a trip to the vet is worth it. It's just some days she seems normal and others not.

Yes, it is normally the back ones rather than front that cause issues. Tagging in Debbie as she is very knowledgeable on teeth @furryfriends Excellent Adventure Sanctuary
The things with vets is sometimes they are too hasty to file teeth down and that can then cause problems so it is always good to go with someone who knows what they should be looking at.

You're right. She just nibbled a bit of carrot at the moment - she would normally scoff the majority of it but then I gave her some of her favourite nuggets and she's devoured them!

Very strange!

Tagging @helen105281 too as I know she's had some guineas with dental problems x

Just a thought, how does her breath smell? Does it smell musty at all? like damp dishcloths?

Well that was flukey, we posted at the same time. I did foster a dental pig for a while who sadly had to be PTS as by the time veterinary treatment was sought he had already started to have other major health issues. I was able to be there at 2 of his dentals. Debbie knows much more though so will be the best person to help here.

Great minds think a like!

Her breath doesn't smell when I give her a kiss etc but I had a cotton bud in her mouth to have a wee look and it did smell horrible but I figured that's normal since they don't brush their teeth! Lol

It doesn't smell stale?

It is possible there is an oral thrush problem but that can go hand in hand with a dental issue so best to get her checked out by a vet who knows what they are doing with teeth.

It doesn't smell nice at all but I don't know about stale.

The inside of her mouth looks ok. Will make an appointment at the vet. Can they tell just by having a look if something is wrong? X

It depends how experienced they are with teeth. I think slanty incisors can be a sign of problems with the back teeth.
