Well this morning I went to visit Oscar with the girls. He is so lovely but very shy. The three of them seemed to get on well.

Brought them home and they had a play together and they again got on well. I've cleaned the cage and put new bedding in and popped them in.

There are enough hidies for them all and one which is big enough to share.

Caramac was sharing this hidy with Oscar and all of a sudden he darted out with caramac close behind. She had a clump of his hair. She is teeth chatting Everytime he moves. I really wanted to split them up but none of them were hurt so I thought it best to keep them together.

At the minute they are all in separate hidies lieing down, however the chasing happened again a few moments ago.

Can I just get some reassurance this is normal?

If not is there anything I should do?

I can't believe how shy Oscar is and how lovely he is.

I hope they can get on.

Hi Chris, Glad you have got the little man home.

I have never bonded piggies so can't offer any advice. Am hoping someone with some experience can pop on and advise. As far as I am aware keep a very close eye on things and remove him if any blood is drawn or things get too heated....

I know Guineapigs<3 took a while to bond Sir Finley with Mabel and Dottie, here is a link to her thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=74383

Hope things go smoothly for you.

If I were you, I'd take out any single exit hideys a piggy can get cornered in; that is the likeliest place for things to get hairy. Have you neutralised that cage in terms of smells, layout etc?

You are in the dominance phase (acceptance has already happened, so a fall out is unlikely), and Caramac is currently very much throwing her weight around. If things escalate, please separate them overnight and give them socialising time together for as long as you can under your supervision; the longer in one go the better. If thing stay are as they currently are, I would leave them together, just remove any hideys Caramac can get possessive over; rather peg some towels over the cage for protection for the time being. Things should eventually quieten down, but it can take a few days until the dominance phase is over. Make sure that you place any food bowls far enough apart that no piggy can hog two at once until they have settled down as a trio.

Yeah, if any blood is drawn then remove one of them. Caramac might just want to be a little bit dominant. I have two boars and my long haired is the dominant one. I've never seen a massive clump of hair been pulled out by him but I have seen him with some little tufts. He's a tad bit bossy! Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys. I think caramac has become a little upset at no longer being the top pig or at least that's what it seems. The hides we have are wooden houses do have two entrances/exits.

I have cleaned and disinfected the cage but caramac's hidy is in the same place is it worth changing that around? I am only using one bowl so I will put in another in a second.

Must be hard for the new guinea pig bless him.

Thanks for your help so far. :)

I think Oscar will just have to learn to stay away from Caramac's hidey and give Caramac a wide berth until she is ready to accept him into her graces on HER terms!

If it is any consolation - any new Tribe member has to work out his/her place in the hierarchy. Being thrown out of a hidey forcefully is pretty par for the course here; and occasionally there can be a mouthful of fur, but no serious bite or anything. We usually have one or two rough weeks until the new order of things has been established, depending on how the newbie reacts. It is not great to watch, but I know that it is only a phase and that once it is over, the piggies are relaxed with each other.

WELCOME OSCAR TO YOUR LOVELY FOREVER HOME XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I do hope it all settles down quicly for you :)
Looking forward to pigtures (hint hint) in the near future x)drool

I am such a big worrier. Well it settled down last night once they had chilled a little. Caramac and mocha went back for a cuddle and Oscar flopped out in his hidy. I also caught caramac lieing down which I've never caught.

Oscar seems a bit more relaxed and found him asleep in the hay.

Mocha seems to be the peace maker at the mInute which is lovely.

My gf saw Oscar drinking so I can rest easy knowing he knows where the water is. There is also an extra bowl of food which Oscar is close to.

Strangely oscars poos are bigger than the girls so it's easy to trace where he's been.

This morning caramac and Oscar were eating hay together whereas yesterday he couldn't be near her without her teeth chattering.

There is the odd chaise but no noises and it's over within seconds.

There alone for half the day today so I will be worrying all day while at work.

But fingers crossed they start to get on.

Pictures to follow shortly once I can get a good shot of all three.

Thanks again

Here's a couple of sneaky pictures I took

Awww Bless him. He is hen pecked already... :)) Welcome to marriage my friend...

Glad to hear things are settling down

Gorgeous! Bonding can take a while not all pigs bond straight away, I bonded my friends three girls with her netuered boar a good few months back, it was touch and go for the first three days but then things started to settle and the dominant girl is still top pig so all is well in the world! :)

I've been worrying all day. I've come through the door to find the hay is everywhere and all three pigs squeezed into one hide asleep.

I tried to take a picture but couldn't get there in time lol.

Caramac and Oscar are now sharing a hidy with mocha running around lol

Fingers crossed they will be ok :)

How's it going this evening? So pleased that it seems to be going well.... Any pigtures of them together (hint, hint) :))

A much quieter evening I am pleased to report. There is the odd purring sound from caramac but other than that they have been good. Caramac is her usual self stealing veggies from mocha and oscar despite there being plenty of other munches to eat lol.

I've seen Oscar eat hay and veggies and seen him drink so I am happy he knows where everything is.

He did try to mount mocha but she was having none of it.

He has no adopted the girls way of running off when I enter the room lol

Pictures I will take tonight hopefully :)
