Once again I just could not resist the temptation to buy this gorgeous little creature. She was in a pet shop huddled in the corner alone and when I returned the next day (couldn't stop thinking about her) she was still in the same corner huddled. No little shelter, no company no water bottle. I asked and they told me she'd been there for nearly two weeks as she had been reserved and the person 'changed their mind'. She looked so tiny and frankly skinny...once she was in my arms there was no way she was going back into the tank. I asked how old she was and I was told 8 weeks....Bloody lies.... I brought her home and weighed her and she was 298 grams....8 weeks my a**e ! She was so thin. I would normally keep new GPs for quarantine but I just had to put her with my girls.... she was so pathetic.

Anyway here she is .....Tribbles (and she now weighs 324 grams) and I only got her Sunday. Any guesses as to how old she really is ?

Hi

I am new to guineas, only having had mine for 4 weeks, but ours were 8 weeks old and they were much bigger then this.

She looks adorable and welll done you for rescuing her. xoxo

Yes .... she is tiny. Even smaller in real life. She's so timid too but very friendly. When you pick her up she loves to be cuddled. She doesn't know how to use a water bottle....what does that tell you ?

Anyway here's another piccy.....she's so sweet and the other girls are running around after her trying to mother her. I think she's loving it

She's lovely. At that weight I'd expect her to be 4 weeks old or so - it depends how many in the litter. Toooo small to be on sale in a pet shop!

Quite right.... and given the fact that they say she had been there for nearly two weeks she must have been only just 2-3 weeks old. Outrageous ! You could see her bones sticking out and she is fluffy so that takes some doing. I am so pleased I got her out of there because I don't know what would have happened to her and she is just lovely....

Aww, bless her, she is lovely!

Poor little girl, theres no way she is 8 weeks.. Glad she has a happy home now with your gang! :)

she's beautiful and you've done such a good job with her. she doesnt look even 6weeks old in the top photo. my piggies were small, but they all looked way more developed than tribble. hope shes ok xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Tribbles was from Star Trek I believe but I didn't name her. That was the name chosen by the lady who reserved her and then changed her mind but I liked the name....For the record I have Lenny, George, Hamish, Angus, Spike, Dougal, Bumble, Pickles, Poppy, Peanut, Bing and Tribbles..... and now eleven mice and two dogs as well....ho hum life in the Young Zoo !

No wonder you couldn't resist the temptation! What a darling little baby! x)

I got 2 baby guinea pigs last night and they are 4 weeks and 3 days old. The mother was only a youngster herself and had 2 in the litter.
I have just weighed them
Ivon 331g
Dave 324g

I have to agree I think Tribbles is around 4-5 weeks old. Shes not only weighing less than she should but her development is behind. She is still acting like a baby GP. She will catch up though as in all other respects she seems fine and healthy.

She must have been taken away from her mother at age 2-3 weeks then. Poor little girl.... wrenched from mother so young and plonked into a glass tank for everybody to poke and tap with not even a house to escape to. No wonder she was nervous.... but very quickly adapting to cuddles :))

Bless her she really is gorgeous. How awful that she was taken from her mum so young.

Just a thought and i am sure you have done already but just make sure she is a girl and not a boy as that could have been the reason for being taken from Mum so young, even though boys should not be in pet shops that young either in my opinion.

Looking forward to lots more pics x)

I had to take Tribbles to the vet yesterday as she went downhill a bit and lost weight. She just didn't seem herself. Glad I did. She has a resp infection and is on Septrin. She had some Critical Care and one tiny piece of cucumber last night but she did take her medicine good.

She lay in my arms for hours wrapped in a towel. She didn't even move once. I am worried but hopeful I've caught it in time.

Vet weighed her at 282g. She's supposed to be 9 weeks old now.:(

Just been feeding Tribbles and got this pic of her licking my fingers.....cute :)
