aww that looks great :) lucky them they get a heater ;D

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

Sorry for the first reply to be a criticism, but I have to say that I miss houses, very much so..

any sort of hideaway for the piggies. a little cardboard box with doors cut in, or a little drainpipe. your setup is much too open for piggies, they need a place where they can feel secure and hide from the world if they want to.

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

Thanks for your advice, I had just finished the pens and stuff, I forgot to add that I would put toys and hidey houses in =]

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

ooooohhhh luxury pad! With heater very posh! ;)

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

What are those grids there made out of are they different from the shelving grids most use? It's a lovely set up and some cute piggies :)

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

posh piggies! lol mine are like that but all in one together..just a thought btw in winter you may want more than a thin layer down on the ground as the cold gets in v easily through concrete i have a big wood slab over it then my sawdust, and heating plus hide aways with blankets over to keep some warmth in :)

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

How big is each pen? Is there one piggy in each and are they boys or girls? Just curious as always looking for new ideas!

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

Thanks guys :smitten:

@Kezza30 - The grids I use are made from a rabbit pen with high sides, I cut each panel into quarters with bolt cutters and taped or ziptied them together. It made 16 grids altogether x

@spudnik - Between them and the concrete the piggies have rubber mats (rubber backed carpet squares turned upside down), two thick layers of newspaper and a decent layer of bedding. x

@lavenderjade - I don't know how big each pen is sorry, I just took the space I had and devided it into 4. Much more room than the petstore cages/hutches. There are two boars on the left and two sows on the right side. There is one pig in each section because the two sows don't get along and two boars don't get along. It will be like this until I get my boys fixed and then each boy can have a girly to themselves =] When I get them together two of the partitions will be taken out and they can have half each x

Re: My New Piggy Palace.

Ive been given some thick rubber matting to put on the base of my cages and i think its a brill idea O0 O0

They look plenty big enough for one piggie in each looks fantastic. But piggies can and do jump now I really think you should put some sort of lid over the boars. When the sows are on heat the boars will do everything in thier power to get to them. You really do not want pregnancys do what ever you can to make sure they cannot get to the sows. Love the set up wood or cardboard makes a huge difference under foot. I used to work in a supermarker and if I did not have a rubber mat to stand on I used cardboard hate my feet getting cold. Well done

The grids only have one bar running across, and thats at the top. They have no foothold to get them over.

believe me when I say a rampant boar will leap them in one jump I have even seen it on youtube a guinea pig jumping over same size and from experience and 3 unplanned babies they can jump high enough when they want to other wise it looks great, as you are getting the boys done just keep an eye on them, thats how i got tiger jasper and poppy thier dad was a rampant guinea

Aww thanks for the warning. I'll put up extra grids so he cant get over. thanks =]
