Woohoo, Just got my Oxbow hay now I need a lift home with the box :))!

I can't wait to give it too the piggies, I am officially the addest person ever :red!

I bet the gang will be hopping from foot to foot when they realise what mum has brought home with her :(|) what size did you buy?

Yeah :)) Oxbow hay company do a western timothy, botanical, oat, meadow, grass and one other - can't remember what the other is.
We order through the Hay experts, thoroughly recommend them, very helpfull and organised company.
We are ordering all six types for our rabbit Teddy as he has been unwell recently and we are trying to get him to eat more hay as he hardly eats the hays we have tried with him.
The piggies have tried the wetern timothy and the grass so far and like both :)

I never knew this think i got the timonthy but not sure :( and not opening it in work they may think I'm crazy!

Oh wow. Wait until you smell it! You may want to eat it like i did. Lol. :)

The piggys will be very happy and i bet will they will know you have some tasty hay as soon as you open the box, get ready for a stamped of piggys and lots of wheeks! :))

YAY it came! 4kg will last you a while i would imagine with your three. I bet they love it!

I just ordered a big box of orchard grass as I like to give them timothy in one rack and orchard grass in the other. I got through a 4kg bag in no time. It's scary how quickly the 10 of them can munch through stuff.

Yay, glad it turned up! Fred and his ladies will love it!

Lisa, I agree with you, they really do go through it very well. I have to order a 22kg every 2 months, and even then it's a bit close on whether I'll run out quicker than usual or not. :))

Oddly, mine go through more hay if I keep the hay racks filled to the top, and don't put any on the floor of the hay trays.

Do you mean types, or brands? Oxbow is a brand, while timothy, meadow etc. are types.

I don't mean to be confusing. :))

Off the top of my head...

Timothy
Orchard-Grass
Bluegrass
Meadow
Oat
Brome
Rye (or Ryegrass)

They are all grass hays, good for guins of all ages. You can get various herbal hays (e.g. Excel Herbage, and Oxbow Botanical) as well, however these usually only have a base of timothy hay with the herbs mixed in. You can also get a real mixture of hays such as oat, wheat and barley hay - these are good too.

Alfalfa is a type of legume hay, much richer in calcium and protein so best saved for piggies under 6 months and for pregnant and nursing sows. :)

Laura yours must really put it away. I have 10 guineas and have used about a third of a box in a month (ish). Do you limit other things or just have some esp hungry pigs? :)

But what one is it? :))

It has to be Timothy if it's messy. I am forever sweeping hay up!

The Orchard grass sticks together better than the timothy but both good hay.

I have tried to fool my lot tonight by mixing in some dust free hay stalky stuff as I need to make space. Not sure it's going to work - test will be if it's all gone by tomorrow morning.

Bet you they know... Does Mork run about Brrring constantly?

Alot yes! he's really funny.

I think he got lucky last night for the first time since going in with the girls. Bless him it's funny that since being neutered he's exactly the same! But Orson doesn't seem remotely interested in the girls despite being a smelly boar.

Is Fred doing it all the time too?

All the time Lisa... thats all he does... I can't work out if it's dominance or he just wants to get lucky all the time rolleyes

I bet he's just trying to show them he's macho. It's friendly with them all isn't it?

They are all eating all around the dust free hay little pains! It's still there but all the oxbow is gone.

Yip it is friendly cant remember the last time I heard a chatter thank goodness, girls and boys are so good :)
