Some of you may have read that I'm sitting a pair of pigs which 1 is expecting. I told my cousin that she can't keep them together and she did...so now she's having babies. Picked them up last night and there STILL in same cage! Said she hadn't had time to get another cage...gave me £10 and said pound stetcher is doing hamster cages to put him in mallethead
I've had to keep them together last night and just hoped she didn't have the babies and I've managed to get a new 120cm cage for £15! So I'm off to collect at 10.30 today. Then I don't know which to keep in the new one...thinking the boy as I don't want to stress the girl out moving her. But this new one is bigger than the cage there both in? So do I or don't I?
They came in a empty cage just nuggets and water. first thing I did is get some hay in there. By looks of it they don't get it often 8... Then came alittle bit of veg each. They def hadn't had veg before!
Didn't want to stress them lat night so this morning in went a snuggle sack and loo roll filled with hay! They LOVED them. Makes me so happy knowing the short time there with me there getting well looked after. Pampered pigs till next Sunday night, going to go get ready to collect the other cage in a min. Going to call and buy a hay ball each and a couple of other bits. Ill send it all home with them so at least they got them. Hate to think ill be spoiling them and then they will have nothing next week.
Going to try and drum it in her head about proper care too but I can only tell her.....
Here's a few photos.....

There just lovely. I knew I'd want to keep them. ESP if the babies arrive in my care. I can't see them jumping about in the tummy.

Also should I take the sack out when she's alone, can it be in in case she goes into labour?

i'm afraid i don.t know the answers to any of your questions but just wanted to say i love the pictures. They'll enjoy their time with you i'm sure

It's sad that you have to describe meeting their basic needs as 'spoiling' them. Well done for finding him a cheap 120 cage! You can leave the snuggle sack in with the female they do like to be able to hide away with their babies once they have been born if they are not too tired. The last two pregnant girls i looked after both had their babies under/in some thing.

I would also probably leave her in the smaller cage, she will grow less active as her pregnancy goes on, and it means there is less space for babies to go wandering at first!

Thanks for the reply. I know it's terrible isn't it. I thought she knew better but you can't educate some people.

They haven't Come out the sack yet. They love it. I've got another spare so that will go in with the male. Got a huge cardboard tube too from when we had new flooring so ill be trimming it up for a tube for them each too. My 2 fatties couldn't fit through it but these are smaller.
They have been together since 5th aug,So let just say it took 2 weeks for her to get caught is say she's due any day now?

If you used that as an estimate it would mean she got pregnant around the 19th of Aug then yes she should be expecting soon. As that was about 10 weeks ago. Unfortunately there really is no telling.

Poor piggies, they are such sweeties, is there not anyway you can keep them? Would the owner let you if you offered? I can just see that the mother is going to have a mixed litter and they will all be together for a few months then mother will be pregnant again as will the little girls :( Sorry but the owner should be ashamed of herself, keeping 2, missexed piggies in a zoozone 2 cage with nothing more than woodshavings, that is disgusting and neglect, i would report her to the RSPCA, i dont care who she is.

I hope that the birth goes well and there are no complications.

As for your cousin....well, I'm disgusted quite frankly. She is not adhering the the RSPCA's basic guidelines on cage size, or the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare -

Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour. (NO HAY)

2. Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. (SMALL CAGE & NO SLEEPING OR HIDING QUARTERS)

3. Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment. (PREGNANCY?)

4. Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind. (CAGE SIZE/NO HAY)

5. Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

I wouldnt be able to give them back to her.

Well birth went well more photos in pregnant section and alittle video further down somewhere on photos. It's a lovely girl :0)
I'm going to ask if I can keep them but I can't see it myself. I've got daddy in a 120cm cage so ill tell her to swap mum and baby in there and daddy in the other.
Ill be happy just to have daddy then at least I know there will be no breeding.
Daddy is sooo lonely on his own. Barely moves around and just sleeps :0( think ill beg for him and they get another young boy for a friend. My two have been together ages so not accept another pair.

I know it makes me mad too. Ill def be having words with her
