We are watching my neighbor’s dog while they are on vacation. Luckily, he has lived with guinea pigs before so he shoes no interest in getting into the piggie room. My piggies hear my two dogs bark all day long and could care less, but the first time they heard the neighbor’s dog bark they ran and hid. Today they all just do a rumble-growl thing when he barks, like they know it’s different but maybe not as scary. I found it interesting that they know their dogs.C88C014C-E699-4599-9CD8-685EE63C7F59.webp138F30EA-C2CD-4061-97FE-E29104657CD6.webp

Well, I’ve never thought about this BUT my piggies recognise our voices and voices of regular visitors to the house and come out to see those they like, and hide from strangers. So I guess they can also recognise their own dogs’ barks, because dog barks are all individual, too. I love the description of a rumble-growl to express their displeasure!

What lovely dogs. Guinea pigs are far more intelligent than most people give them credit for.
Mine know my OHs car, they get really excited when he pulls up outside but they don't take any notice if anyone one else parks outside the house.

Mine know piggy daddy's car too they start the wheeky chorus while he's parking up! They also seem to know which hoomans are "our hooman's herd" and "not our herd" and anyone related to me gets greeted as family, even my new baby grandson appearing for the first time crying loudly got greeted as "ooh look its hooman herd baby" and they were absolutely fascinated and ran about chuckle-cooing at him like I imagine they would at a baby piggy! Outsider hoomans are always rumble-growled or loudly wheeked at :)
