Hi everyone. You may remember my post about Belle and Brandi, and Pippa after Brandi sadly died. Just an update on my experiences really.

I have not owned Guinea Pigs before these and didn’t know what to expect. I think they are brilliant, really fun and entertaining to watch. Pippa is so tame and squeaks at me when I walk past or speak to her. She loves to come out and wander around on my lap and sofa. Belle is much more reserved and less vocal. She has to be held in a towel as she would run off! I have had her walk around on my bed a little, but shes def more hard work!

As these little creatures are so endearing I have found myself owning a third piggie, Barry. Barry as I am sure you can guess by his name is a boar. He was picked on badly by others and is currently on antibiotics for his bite wounds. He is timid and hides a lot at the moment. I have purchased another cage like the ladies one and they currently sit side by side for company. Barry hasn’t shown any interest in the girls yet, still too timid. Pippa has squeaked and climbed at the side of the cage, Belle has taken a small interest, but also stamped her feet at the opposite side of the cage in what I believe is a rumble strut, didn’t know sows did that. She hasn’t shown anymore aggression though, so maybe it’s the smell of a different pig that concerned her.

Barry cant really live with another boar as he gets picked on, however I will be getting him neutered and hopefully he will get along well with the ladies. If not then maybe a young sow wouldn’t overpower him. We attempted housing him with a smaller boar, but even the little one picked on him. Barry has just been picked on too much. I had managed to hand feed him, but after a trip to the vet yesterday involved the vet squeezing puss out of a bite, he is not too happy to see me at the moment.

Any tips or advice on my situation?

Poor Barry :(
I hope he finds a mate! Or the woman get on with him!
Fingers and toes crossed :D
& good luck wheeeeeeks from my little boys!

Hello again. It is lovely to hear how much you are enjoying your guinea pigs and great to hear you have rescued that poor boar. He will not be very happy at the moment as he is unwell but you are doing all the right things with him. Barry needs you to speak softly to him and if he is in pain you may want to wait a bit before you cuddle with him. I really hope he can live happily with your girls. Beware that he will have to be apart from them six weeks after his operation.
