However, since yesterday my herd has grown from one to three! I know it isn't the best way to aquire guinea pigs with a from a free advert but I felt I couldn't ignore. A woman had bought two guinea pigs and put them in with her rabbit, no introductions or anything. Needless to say, the rabbit proceeded to attack the two, so she didn't want the guinea pigs anymore.

What really caught my attention was that the two were a male and female. I emailed to ask if the male was neutered. The answer, no, she didn't think he needed to be mallethead. I think any rational thinking was removed from my head and I went to down to collect them last night. She thinks they are about five months old, and she had been feeding them on rabbit food.

I've put them in quarantine away from Paddy, and also separated them off until it's confirmed whether the female is pregnant, but I think it's pretty unaviodable given the lady had them together for nearly two weeks. :(

Anyway, this is what happens when I allow my fiancé to name one of them.
Please meet Dirk Piggler...

It's so nice to live back in a place that allows guinea pigs!

What poor little beauties! they must be quite traumatised after that!

Sadly, the chances for a pregnancy are quite high. If you post in the pregnancy section, we can provide you with all the advice you may wish for, starting with pregnancy diet.

Glad you saved them.

As I'm not sure of your current knowledge just thought id point out a few things
Like wiebke said, check out the pregnancy section.
Please be aware, you now have two boys and a girl. Unfortunatly even if you neuter both boys they cannot all live together. Having a female there will cause the boys to fight. If you have a female baby, they could have a female friend each after neutering, or alternativly you could contact a rescue that offers boar dating (after quanaranteen) and try bonding the two males, as neutering is a big op, in the hope that the female will have a female baby she can stay with. I would however urge you to wait untill the pups are born to see what youve got.

(sorry if I'm being patronising, maybe you already know all this. :D )

So glad you have rescued them, them are all lovely x) Welcome to the forum, it's a friendly place and a great source of knowledge as you can see by the 2 posts above. Hope to see more of your piggies soon.

Thanks, everyone!

Don't worry about being patronising! I've owned piggies before but not a pregnant one so am happy for all the advice! What I had intended to do is to neuter Paddy and get him a girlfriend, but obviously this has been thrown into the mix now. So yes, I shall hold fire and see what she gives birth to : ). I have a large cage on order which I could section off temporarily (it was going to be intended for just the two, maybe three pigs, so think I shall look into making a C+C cage now).

I shall go and check out the pregnancy section. : )
