Hi All Piggy Lovers,

This is my first post. My husbnd and I are in California USA. We have been keeping. pig for several years. We have 2 now, Annie and Millie. We hve have 7 perviously. We are not able to get out due to the virus and have a sick little girl , Millie. I hope someone can help. She is about 4 and 1/2. She was in good health but this week she started leaking urine. I bathed her and foudn a bit of red blood coming out with her stool. She has lost weight and now her little back hind leg is weaken and notable to be used at least she is not using it. We have seen this before when our pigs were elderly and would soon pass. She smell terrible fromteh leaking. I am afriad to bath her agian due to her weakness. She is dragging herself around their cage and eating and drinking well. Right now she and Annie are minching on Arugala treat. I will try to call out vet tomorrow but as of today no one was in hte office. Terrbile time for this. Can anyone help me with informtion. We are so sad. We keep our girls in our living room so we can see them all the time in a lovely cage. tearful !

I’m so sorry. It’s so difficult during lockdown but your piggy does need veterinary help.

With the smell, blood and leakage of urine it sounds like she may have an infection either of the urinary tract or the reproductive tract.

Please see if you can speak to a vet somewhere - many of ours in UK are seeing emergency patients to prevent suffering - some are doing video consults. Others are inviting you to drive the the practice, leave the carrier outside and you wait for the vet staff to collect the carrier. Then you wait in the car while the vet sees the animal and then the pet carrier, medicines and instructions are brought outside to a collection point and you collect the animal.

Great advice form Vicky above. Sorry to here you are having illness issues

Guinea Lynx :: GL's Vet List is the US vet list

hope youcan get in contact with vet ASAP

Hi!

Please try to see a vet as soon as possible. It is more difficult, especially as - unlike the UK where a socially distanced vet service for ill pets and farm animals is being kept up - there are more clinic closures in the US; so you may have to google and phone around. Exotics vets are more likely closed than general vets in the US from what I gather from our US members.

Here is our emergency, crisis and bridging care advice, including care tips on how you can improvise until you can hopefully be seen: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Fingers firmly crossed! It is an anxious time for us all!

thak you for your replies. I am in California . I am trying to get to a vet. thanks
