Hello,

I'm sat up all night because my tiniest boy is passing blood in his urine. He's ok in himself, drinking, eating - there's no squeals of pain. Still blood in urine! I'm not going to bed - no chance!

Waiting to call the vet at 8am.

I have my urine sample ready, his pet carrier sorted, my clothes, handbag and gps at the ready (I live in London have no idea where I'm going most of the time) - but yeah thought might post on here - see who else is up!

I might have to drive to maidstone in kent if the more cavy knowledgable vet at my normal vets isn't on duty.

Unless anyone knows a good piggy vet in London?

x

I am sorry to hear that your guinea pig is not very well - I do hope that your cavy savvy veterinarian is on duty today!

However, perhaps, it would be helpful to say exactly where you are located in London?!

The following veterinarians are located approximately 25-30 minutes from the centre of London?!

Anne O'Meara is in Ewell, Surrey?! Anne is highly recommended!

Christabel Moseley is in Twickenham, Middlesex?! I believe Christabel cares for all the guinea pigs who are rehomed through 'Animal Rescue and Care'!

I believe that Ewell, Surrey is approximately 45 minutes from Camden, while Twickenham, Middlesex is approximately 35 minutes from Camden?!

However, I understand that Maidstone, Kent is approximately 60-70 minutes from Camden?!

That being the case, you may also wish to consider visiting Jenny Towers in Tilehurst, Reading?! Jenny is highly recommended - I believe Jenny cares for Chrissie Slade's (Gorgeous Guineas) guinea pigs, and cared for all the guinea pigs who were rehomed through 'Reading Guinea Pig Rescue! I am under the impression that Tilehurst, Reading is approximately 60 minutes from Camben?!

On the ther hand, the following thread may be of interest?!

oh my god, so sorry to hear about your poorly boy, I hope you have managed to get into the vets and that they can help. Sending healing vibes x

Goddard Vets are open between 8.30 and 12.00 on Saturdays, but the vet you would want to see (Anne) only works on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. When Goddard is closed, they outsource to a vet in Wimbledon - Stone Lion, 41 High Street - but I have no idea what this surgery is like as I have only ever spoken to the on call emergency vet there on the phone.

Hi everyone! I got him in at Abi's practice - which turns out isn't too far from me.

The vet was lovely. She says she believes is cystitus, she feels he's a bit too young for bladder stones but also while examining him he didn't cry out in any pain while being touched. She gave him an anti-inflammatory injection and a week long course of antibiotics, I asked for septrim rather than baytril as I heard it's pretty good against UTI's.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the update.

Did you discuss the possibility of an xray without sedation?

HI, you know I'm so sorry, by the time I got there I was completely sleep deprived, Floyd was beside himself and I never even thought about it. All the questions I had planned to ask went completely from my head as I was just in bits watching Floyd have an injection. So sorry.

Also Floyd did a runner in there and made a bolt for the vet's computer.....lol. Which involved some chasing around on our part! little , lol.

I bet you could call them though to ask/speak to a vet before you made a journey? I felt like I was in good hands.

Out of interest how much did your vet trip cost? Only I've been to village vet who charged me £55 for a 5 minute consult and a bottle of shampoo....they were the worse by far (I had to ask for the shampoo the vet wanted to send me home with a bottle of vitamin c - for ringworm, it was dreadful), and another vet I saw charged me £50 for a consult and then wanted to charge me £80 for a bottle of imaverol (again ringworm treatment - which you could get off the internet for £17!).

This vet charged £41 for the consult, injection and a weeks supply of antibiotics! Plus they were just nice! The receptionist who squeezed me in made a point of coming over to see Floyd and ask how he was, the clinic itself was set up to be a proper clinic - you know as opposed to these 'coffee shop' type looking clinics. And I know it's daft but even in their info pack they have pics of guinea pigs and rabbits and outside were pics/info - i didn't read for hamsters - everywhere else I've gone have been so cat and dog focused.

Sorry for not asking. Hope this helps though xx

Thanks for this. If possible please can I have the name and number of the vets? How is your piggie? X
