Hello, I have just got a new guinea pig hutch. It is a two story hutch form P@H and is the sage house. It is spacous and has removeable doors to attach a run. Does anyone else have this hutch? What do you think of it. If you dont have this hutch, but have a two story hutch, Please tell me what you think of them. I think mine is very good. It took me nearly four hours to build it tho lol. Instructions were not very clear at all. I will attach some pigtures of my Hutch and run. What time do you think they can start living out there, now?

Please excuse my dog, she LOVES THEM!

Hi, is the coloured ink in newspaper ok for them to eat? they rip it up!

Hi, I have that hutch (got mine last year when I got my piggies) and I think it's fabulous - although I have had to put a cardboard box under the stairs so that both pigs can have their own hidey holes else they throw a hissy fit. I remember when I got mine, the sales asst was trying to sell me a tiny one storey hutch for two guinea pigs which I thought was really cruel, hence why I went with one deemed by pets at home to be suitable for a rabbit <-- my rabbit would hardly be able to move in it, but thats P@H for you. The one problem I have found is that if you line the bottom with too much newspaper the stairs have a habit of slipping and falling down - normally stranding a poor piggie downstairs (happened about an hour ago and they both sat there squeaking at me until I fixed it).

As far as newspaper is concerned, mine have eaten their newspaper for the last year and its done neither of them any harm - I once heard that newspaper is fine for piggies to eat, providing they don't read it first.

On the bottem floor, mine has a little notch, that keeps the ladder in place

Have they ever fallen down the hole at the top, were the stairs go?

i have the lavender lodge (its single storey and very wide) from pets at home, my piggies are in love with it! the lift up roof helps in clean out dutys!

Can they have their first night outside tonight, or is it too cold?

i would still say it is too cold, the weather seems to change all the time, mine are going out in april.

ive got 2 sage houses, 2 lavender lodges, 1 thistle hall and all have matching hutch-huggers (i think p@h must have a contract with scratch+newton cos the covers fit perfectly) i don't even want to know how much it all cost me! :o pets @ home must love me!

i think these hutches are great! with a few minor niggles such as the hinges not being strong enough on the lavender lodge and the bolts being too small and fiddly, apart from that they're fab! O0

i don't put newspaper in mine, just megazorb and hay.

How many piggies could fit happily in there? If she isnt pregnant I might buy another female.

we have the sage house too,but we had to fix a bit of wood at the top by the stairs to prevent the girls from falling down as it is a high drop. :)

I'd be interested in getting away from using so much newspaper, I chuck so much of it away. Do you have to clean them out more often using the megazorb? All I seem to do at the moment is clean out, and I don't want to have to do it any more than already.

The megazorb is great but does have a smell, i change mine about every 10 days fully but touch it up every few days dpends on how messy they get !

Personally i would get some company for your little one before you put her outside as they can snuggle up to keep warm, I would say it was big enough for 2 just dont overfill it with toys !

Thats a nice hutch and run!
We have a similar Rabbit Shack 2-storey hutch for one of our buns (think its a bit wider), with a run attached. They are difficult to assemble tho! :)

Do you think i should put a piece of wood at the top of the stairs incase they fall down?

Very nice hutch :) I have a piece of wood at the top of my 2 storey hutch & also sides on all of my ramps to prevent them plopping over the sides ;)

I have two, two storey cages and a C+C cage... neither my rabbits or guinea pigs have ever fallen... i thinkk they are great! and mine are really spacey too so its easy to clean out :)

I have a similar hutch, and i put a piece of wood to act as a guard because one of my old girls has cataracts & I was worried about her falling over the edge. It also helps stop bedding constantly being kicked around too.

We were looking at this hutch for when the spring weather comes, ours are inside at the moment. I'm glad that everyone has got something good to say about it I think i will definitely go and buy it now! :) :) :)

Its an excelant hutch, spacious and easy to clean due to the lift up roof.

Hello :)

If my piggie isnt pregnant, i am thinking i might get a new female. How would i go about adding her to my two females that i have now? Also, any1 with this hutch (sage house from P@H) Can you tell me how many pigs u have in it, how many do you think i could have in it?

I have two piggies in mine, and I don't think either of them would like any more... one is very protective of the bedding area and will kick the other one out, but I'd imagine you might be able to have another piggie in with your existing two. Mine havn't fallen down the hole yet and they've been in there a year - as for the comment about the stairs falling down my hutch has the wedge at the bottom as well, but with their newspaper etc, it tends to slip out, normally stranding a piggie downstairs.

I am buliding a new run for my piggies. The hutch will be put in the run and twill be very large, about 6ft long and 9ft wide, it will about 4ft high, it will have about 2ft of paving slabs and 4ft of grass by the full width. It will have a door, and opening roof as my dog would do anything to get in,lol. I will be starting the project in the easter holidays, mabey before. what do you think? I will post the plans on. Can you add pics of your runs please to give me ideas, thanks!

Tom

Hi, in designing the new run, would a guinea pig go through a cat flap?
