Cherish

Before I start, I hope the content of this post is appropriate. If not, I apologise.
I really don't mean to offend anyone, this is just a little issue that I could use some help with.

Okay, one of my pigs, The Doctor, is a very territorial little guy.
Whenever we introduce a new pig to him, he gets very dominant with all the usual behaviour (rumble-strutting, mounting etc.) and he always ejaculates. It's something we've come to expect, but it's usually just the once, at first introduction.

However, recently his cage-buddy, The Captain, has started challenging his dominance. Rather than scuffling with him like they usually do, The Doctor seems to be showing his dominance by ejaculating. :)>>>

I'm waiting for them to work it out on their own, but in the meantime, I'm stuck with frequent ejaculation which, as I hope some of you will know, isn't very nice. It gets stuck on the fleece and in his hair, meaning that he has to be bathed often to get it out, and it really, really smells.

As much as I love the little guy, he's really starting to put me right off my Cheerios.

Anyone else ever had this problem?
Is there anything I can do about it?

ewww lol I've six boars can't say I've ever had that problem even with my John Barrowman/George Michael piggy Twinkle (he loves the guys)

Maybe bathing the two boars together would help. Would rid of any scent and maybe bond them so they don't get narked over their own space. Clean cage out from top to bottom too.

I don't know really, I love boars, they are so mental! :))

One of mine does this and it's always worse when they're first put in the run or after the cage has been cleaned - it's as if he doesn't remember that he's already established his dominance in those areas.

The Doctor and The Captain - two great piggy names, love it!

My only advice is as above really. Give the cage a total clean from top to bottom, disinfect etc. then give The Doctor and The Captain a similar treatment, a nice good bath, clean their scent gland out. Then try putting them together on neutral ground. This may have to continue over a few days, perhaps out on the floor together, for a longer period of time each day. When they seem happy, pop them back in their clean cage. I'd advise getting two of everything - hidey holes, snuggles, food bowls, water bottles etc. as this will help with any territorial squabbles.

I love boars! I'm kinda glad that mine don't, erm, you know, all over the place! ;o)

I can TOTALLY sympathise with your problem, when Gary and Minty were with me, they were exactlly the same! mallethead

I really hope all the great advise given works for you and your boys, good luck:)

Boars are delightful little creatures ... yes, really they are but they can think about sex 24/7! (I think that is the same in any species rolleyes;):)))
But I have to say that I haven't ever had one as sexually active as The Doctor.

Can I ask how old are these pigs? Have they lived together for very long?

Hi,
Looks like I might be having the same problem with my two boys. Noticed one day this week a rather suspect sticky stuff on Rory, but still not sure so cleaned him up and have not seen anything since. But have just had them out for 2 hours in the living room, great popcorning considering I've only had them a week, but then Alex the smaller of the two keeps mounting Rory and going for it. Alex grumbles and they both have a jumping fit ! Questions being asked by my 9 year old as to why this keeps happening, tried to explain but in the end said it looks like we might have to get the boys to the vet and get them done so they can't have babies and this would calm them down. But I will see how things go as it's only early days and it might just be a settling in phase ? Not used to it as I have only kept girl piggies in the past. Just hope it doesn't get too heated.inbreeding I think mine are 5 months if that helps.

Suz Yours are most likely in puberty and hopefully things will settle down in time. I have two female rabbits who go through phases of humping each other incessantly and my children beleive they are trying to get a piggy back from one another:)

Thanks for all the advice, guys!
I'm going to try it today, and start them out on the floor... which, thankfully, is laminate, so it won't be difficult to clean up!
The Doctor does tend to be less territorial when he's out on the floor (he totally freaks out if he thinks he's too far away from me or any other pigs) so hopefully it'll be better.

As for their ages, The Doctor is just over a year, and The Captain is a few months, right in the middle of his "awkward teenager" phase.
One ejaculates all the time, and the others penis is constantly erect (which is a bit awkward when I'm trying to give him a cuddle).
Why can't they just scrap like normal boars!? grrrr

Suz, if the pigs are happily getting on other than this little problem, I honestly wouldn't put them through a neuter op as surgery is always risky. It sounds like they are very happy with each other and I know you would hate to see that spoiled! Things will likely settle down.

Despite having all boars, I have only had this problem a few times with one particular pair and it's still not a common occurance, just when one gets a little fruity! I would think that if it's accompanied by obviously aggressive behaviour and bullying then I would take action, but if the pigs seem happy I would try and leave well alone if you can bear it. However if the penis is constantly visible you may want to take a peek at this link: http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/penprot.htm as it may need some attention.

Thanks for the advice, they had the run of the living room again yesterday and it does seem to have calmed down a bit. I think it may have been a more "this is all new to me" from an over excited Alex ! as I haven't had to clean Rory again since Monday.
Fingers cross for The Captain and let us know he gets on.:)p

Yes well..............this is boars............
Some boys seems to be more 'friendly' than others and this does cause problems....but if you can get them thru this period of time i'm sure they'll become the greatest of friends xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
You've already been offered some fab advice i'd go with tryint them all, and just see what works.......if no results in say a week or so, come back on and ask more advice....don't want to stress the piggies or you any longer :)
and super good luck :):)
