My OH's stepdad has said that all my pigs have to go outside :(

So I am buying a shed that I am going to insulate etc.

Annoying because Lentil and Jake have been so happy in their massive indoor run and that won't fit in the shed :( So they'll have to go back to their cage and once I have figured out where I can put stuff in the shed I plan to buy them a two-tier cage.

That is so unfair. |They do no harm being inside at all. I would refuse.

It'll be ok my piggys thrive outside , I'm not allowed to keep them indoors and I wouldnt want to anyway because I'm allergic lol

Don't panic...
If they have to outside an insulated shed is the right angle to go....
I used loft insulation on my shed Packed it in-between the built in hutches and the wall of the shed...
And when I open the shed in the morning it's quite toasty in there... :))
Good luck...

Here's my shed... :))
Sorry about the rubbish photo... It's impossible to get a good photo of my shed...

That is such a shame and totally the wrong time of the year for him to tell you this because to be quite honest and you probably wont want to hear this, but if yor pigs are indoors and not used to being outdoors, they are going to find it extremely difficult to adapt now that the weather has turned cold. It would have been a lot better to start climatising them in the warner months.
But if you are willing to spent some time and money then get an insulated and heated shed to move them into.
I have an outdoor herd and everyday throughtout the winter i dread everyday that i have to go out to them and always fear the worse, they have grown very hardy though and as there is 13 of them they are able to keep each other warm

I really sympathise for you and wish you all the luck xx

I have the same problem with mine, but they've been out for longer. I hate it though, I can't even use the shed :(. BUT...I'm moving into my own place on the 14th so will have to bring them in again. I may just have to be cold for the first few weeks until they get used to it again.
I'm sure your boys will soon get used to it. X

They will be fine. It's not really cold at the moment. Lots of bedding. You try placing a box in hutch for them to sleep in. Or a old fleece on top of hay helps to keep them bit warmer.

oh dear what a shame, you have such a lovely big room you have them in! but i guess you have no choice here, but knowing how much and how well you care for your piggies, i know they will get the best place to live outside, i wonder if it was the babies arriving and being inside which was the last straw for him? not worth having a row about though x

I am so sorry to hear this! Hopefully, you can get organise an insulated shed!

Oh no, thats a shame, bit mean?!

Mine are all happily in a shed and have a great time making a mess and making hay hideys etc so they will be fine. If they are used to being indoors though I would certainly recommend insulation and if you can get power to the shed, then an oil heater works well and is cheap to run. In fact I think my shed is often far cosier than the house in the winter!

To make me feel happier I also have a temperature gauge which is wireless based so I can monitor the temperature of the shed even when I not in there:)) I have it my bedroom so in the middle of the night I can roll over and just check that they are OK makes a big difference to how much I worry!

Hope it all goes well. x

Oh man that sucks.
My stepdad is wanting me to move my pigs outside but I told him he has to buy me a shed and get it kitted out if he wants that to happen, and I said I don't want a small shed I want a proper workshop sized one so I can use the other half as an office. But it will never happen.

Defiantly get it insulated, the oil filled radiator will be safer to use to heat the place if you can, Also get a thermostat wired to a plug socked which you would only use for the heater as the thermostats built into the radiators are not very good and either underheat or overheat the room.

Mine have just moved into a shed, the ones from outdoors, love it as it's out of the wind and rain, and the ones from indoors love it as they can see the other piggies and it's peaceful away from the noise of the house. I've just bought a load of 150mm space blanket insulation to lag the inside of the shed and a small oil filled radiator to keep the chill off. They are going to be very comfortable this year. Best of all it has lights so I can clean them out any time of day in the warm lit wind free confines of the shed - heaven. ;)

I've got a few things to do whilst we still have dry light days, but it will be perfect once finished.

Don't worry its going to be snuggle warm! I just annoyed that they gotta go outside. More money to spend and Jake and Lentil will have to go back in thei cage until I can afford to buy another :/

i'll be buying a new shed for my girls and boys for the next winter they thrive also being outside! X

Mine have just had a brilliantly warm light comfortable winter in their shed. Best thing I've ever done. ;)

Electricity. ;) I installed lighting and heating in there so they had a snug winter. :)
