My Poor Molly :( Poss Stroke/infection.

Last night I went to go to bed and noticed Molly was moving strange/tilting to one side but eating...I immediately called out of hours vets (infact I phoned 2 as the first told me not to worry and take her in today) who asked to see her and diagnosed a possible stroke or ear infection she had a shot of baytrill there and he prescribed 7 days baytrill oral at home.

I'm out of my mind with worry...he said the next 2 days were crucial. He listened to her tummy and seems happy with all that. She is pooping. I'm not convinced she is drinking enough but he said if she was eating then she would be drinking? I'm offering cucumber and she is eating that...hoping that will help with some liquid? She is eating hay as normal and ate a big pile of salad leaves/pepper/cucumber this morning.

Should I syringe water? I forgot to ask him that! My head is all over the place!

I had to separate her from faith as she was being a bit of a bully and Molly couldn't defend herself this is just awful and so horrible to see!

Does anyone have any encouraging stories/advice

A head tilt is always distressing to see, but not all that uncommon. Ear infections, especially middle or inner ear infections can affect the centre of balance. They are the most frequent source of head tilts. You have done right in seeking prompt vet care and treatment, so Molly has the best chance of making a good recovery.

With good look, the symptons will slowly subside again over the next few days/week.

I would recommend to either mix the baytril with the equal amount of ribena to cover the horrible taste of baytril or to give the ribena immediately afterwards. Keep her as comfy and stress-free as possible for the time being (medicating nonwithstanding.

If you notice Molly's poo becoming squishy or if she is losing her appetite, please give her a pinch of probiotic 1-2 hours after the baytril. if she loses her appetite or loses 50g or more weight from one day to next, please step in/top her up with syringe feed and water. Weigh her daily at the same time in the feeding cycle. Contact the vet promplty if there is any noticeable deterioration.

I had similar with our Bramble before Christmas, we're still having to syringe feed her but shes doing very well so the fact Molly is still eating is a good sign I cant offer anything more than what Wiebke has said but the tilt should come right soon. Bramble was also given panacure in case it was e.coniculi which is a parasite. Bramble went from completely tilted over on to her left side to upright again within maybe a week of treatment?

We've actually only just got back from the vets to have her incisors burred down again as shes only eating one side, we first thought it was pain related but its possible that its nerve damage, we've also been given drops for her eye on that side as again, nerve damage means shes not blinking enough so keep an eye on eyes and teeth. So glad Bramble is recovering! What a beauty

So a little update...Molly is having a really good evening...she is active in her pen, not leaning anywhere still has much (although still a little), she is eating and has finally drank from her bottle (she also took some water from the syringe since my last post!). She looks like a different piggy compared to this morning! I just hope this continues!

She is still separate from faith but I'm wondering if I should put them back together now...it might help Molly keep improving? They have been apart about 20hrs. I'm not sure what to do for the best!

Pleased to report that Molly is doing amazingly well! She is walking perfectly again with no tilt, eating and drinking like normal too! I'm so relieved! My little lady is back! I really thought that was it...

I tried putting faith back with her this morning but a huge fight broke out so we separated then again! They are side by side in puppy pens so will try again in a few days! X

The same thing happened to one of my boys about 5 years ago. He was pretty much on one side. He was on antibiotics for a while.
I separated him at first, and kept him in a small "hospital" cage as he couldn't move around at all.
I was surprised and very happy that he started to improve and within 3 weeks or so he was back on his feet and walking around. He continued to have a bit of a wonky walk and his head was still tilted but he seemed happy.
That's when I re-introduced him. I made sure he was happy and still able to eat enough food.
