So my guineapig is around 3-4 years old and I went to bring him out one day and clumps of hair came off in my hands, this caused him no pain but I noticed his skin was all red and flaking underneath. His weight has decreased massively as he was quite the chunky piggy now he is skin and bone. He eats a very good and balanced diet and started drinking a lot more, he gets his hay regularly, Timothy hay.
He’s started becoming more bitey as well, everytime I go to grab his bowl he goes for my wrist or fingers Which he never used to do!
I’m planning on Taking him to the vet as it’s getting seriously out of hand! He’s becoming impacted nearly every other day!
I seriously don’t know what to do besides a vet visit as I get paid Friday this week, I’m scared of the outcome, this has all came by storm over the last 4 days! He’s been sneezing, wheezing as well, i thought this wasn’t anything to be concerned about but it’s flushed though him in the span of 4 days!

I’m sorry to hear this.

Please step in and syringe feed him a recovery feed or mushed pellets. He may appear to be eating but when a piggy’s weight drops it’s because they aren’t eating enough hay to maintain their weight (hay being 80% of the daily food intake) and you cannot judge hay intake by eye

He definitely needs to be seen by a vet asap.

I hope he is ok

Good luck. I hope the vet can help your piggy. Sending healing vibes ❤️

Guinea pigs are prey animals so hide their injuries and illnesses until they are no longer able to do so. Your piggy needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Please speak to the vets to see if they will offfer you a payment plan.

I hope you can see a vet quickly and get the necessary treatment.
As well as syringe feeding you can place a small dish of grated carrot or sweet pot with raw oats in the cage to help encourage him
Holding you in my thoughts

Thank you so much everyone for your advice! Most people have slated me and given me hate instead of advice and help!
I'm booking the appointment tomorrow morning!

Good luck and I hope he is on the mend soon.

Sorry that some people have been unkind.

Have you been able to book a vet appointment?
As well as diagnosis and treatment they can be very reassuring.
