Hi everyone, just a curious thing...

My little Casran never makes any squeaks and I wondered if anyone else has a silent piggy. Sometimes there's tiny squeak from the back of his throat but nothing more.

When Casran first came to me as a rescue piggy I thought he was just quiet because he was a bit scared but he's remained silent.

In contrast, his piggy wife Jemima never shuts up ... she literally chatters and squeaks and wheeks all the time (perhaps he just can't get a word in edgeways).

I just wish he would talk to me...

Putt was a silent piggy, she never ever wheeked and let Pitch do all the talking for her... She mastered the feed me stare instead :)) It doesn't mean he is any less happy - some piggies just don't use their voice much , if at all....

Miss Fluffybottom is obviously the spokesperson for your droolsome duo

Fluffybum literally CANNOT stop talking. Sometimes I watch her secretly on her own in the cage and she'll be walking around talking to herself! I'm like "WHAT are you saying?" Perhaps she's telling the hay off or something.

Nothing to do with piggies, but we have a customer who comes into the co-op where I work. He is foreign and talks to himself ALL the time. He has been seen shouting at the vegetables!

I used to have a guinea pig who never shut up, he would walk round chatting to himself. He even used to talk to the garden tools and the lawnmower.
Currently I have one piggy that has never spoken yet, she just popcorns around when it is veg and hay time. At least if they popcorn you know they are happy even though they don't talk.

:)) She obviously has a lot to say

:) Now that is a skill :))

I think you should get this on video if you can, I would love to hear Miss Fluffybottoms voice :)

My Terfel used to be a very quiet piggy that you hardly ever heard and my Telyn (the white aby in my avatar) got her name (which means "harp" in Welsh) because she literally couldn't shut up, had the loudest voice and a truly ear-splitting wheek! Most guinea pigs are somewhere in between.

This sounds exactly like Casran and Jemima... I live in fear of Jemima's wheek especially in the middle of the night if I go down to get a glass of water.

One of my neighbours mentioned they could hear Jemima in my garden!

Toffee and Ripple never shut up! It was like constant bird song in the kitchen. I have never heard Lorne's voice though! He has only been with me for a couple of months though.

I love that piggies are all individuals :) I have four boys who can mostly all be loud apart from Hamish, who is generally quiet but when he does wheek it's croaky and wheezy and usually at some completely inappropriate time....

Each to their own I suppose!

Dylan, my oldest pig was silent when I first adopted him. I've had him over a year and I can count how many times he's wheeked on one hand! He always chatters at me when I'm spot cleaning...I just think of him as a grumpy pig :) another boar, called mouse is always making noise :)

I caught him making a little noise!

I was rummaging in the fridge and the usual chaos broke out in the dining room behind me when two piggies assumed I was getting them something, and I could of sworn I heard two squeakers not just one.

I wandered over but unfortunately Jemima thought that meant I was bringing food and excitedly stomped over Casran's head to get to the bars nearest me...
