I'm not sure about how Loki came into the rescue where I adopted him from, but I have had a thought on why he may of ended up there....
First, I read that there are certain standards a guinea pig must be in to show.
An example is that abyssinians must have at least 8 rosettes, Loki has 7 they must be calm, easy to handle and not attempt to escape from platform, Loki is very nervous and ALWAYS attempts to run away unless he's in his little cozy.
This is my thought on why he was rehomed. It may not be correct but that's how I think!
if your pigs a rescue, tell me your story, or tell me what you think may of happened.

I know that Jemima was breed and born in "rescue" and was placed with other sows when her mum died when she was 3 weeks old. I got her at 6 weeks. I saw Peter on this forum and fell in love but was too late as Abi_nurse took him, following another unsuccessful boar bonding I saw him again and had to have him! I got him neutered to live with my two existing girls (pre Jemima).

Bumble and Bea I got from rescue originally and do not know their stories, Bea was 2 years old and Bumble 4 months, I think Bumble may have been from an accidental pregnancy. Bea was really timid, she's lovely but doesn't so much like physical contact from either human or pig so much and her nails are quite long and twisted so I tend to clip them regularly and only a little bit at a time. From her behaviour and a bald patch on her side (no illness or problems now, she has had this patch a long while) I believe she was neglected and possibly mistreated

Five of my piggies are rescues, and I know their stories...

Finley, Napoleon and Columbus are my new baby boys and they were born in rescue after their mums were rescued after uncontrolled/accidental breeding.

I took in Amelia and Isabelle after their owner became a teenager and decided she didn't want them anymore and neither did her parents.

Loads of my pets have been rescues (I'm a sucker for a sob story!). Two of my rats were unwanted pets, the third was handed in after her cagemate died, and the fourth was kept on her own and never handled until the kid got bored and gave her away to be rehomed. She took a lot of gentle persuasion to become the soppy girl she is now.

My first cat was given into rescue aged 15 because he aggravated his owner's asthma. My second was found in a flat where his owner had died and no one had noticed. He was the best cat EVER and was obsessed with wrapping himself around your pulse points and falling asleep :))

Cat No. Three was handed in aged 18 months because her owner's partner physically beat the cat and when she got pregnant (because she wasn't neutered), he tried to drown her. This cat is currently sat next to me purring away as i type, and she's come a long way from the skittish thing she was when i got her. I never met him, but I HATE the man who thought it was ok to do this to her.

So yeah, most of my pets span the expected array of reasons why animals end up in rescue. Several of these are rainbow bridge animals now (and I miss them all!), but i'm really glad that I was able to make them happy and well-loved for as long as I could.

Milo's Story

Milo first found his feet in this world, a small little piggy in a big bad world! His litter mates all died, why we don't know leaving only Little Milo.

Milo was rehomed to live with another boar or two, Milo lacks social skills and they soon fell out, his owner due to circumstances had to return him to rescue.

Meanwhile his piggy mum to be was dreaming of a long haired boy and a beautiful girl called Bette. Bette had stole his mummies heart she had to have her and of course she needed a friend the very day I was able to advise the rescue Milo came up for re-home he had to be mine just because of his locks.

I remember my first visit to Milo, I was collecting Bette. My god he had red eyes, I never noticed. He bit me and urinated on me and I remember thinking what have I done.

Milo soon left with me, his life didn't get easier forced to live a solidarity life, he was rejected.

Please be my friend.. .

He soon found a friend in Esme..

Unfortunately for him she had a keen interest in his locks..

Milo blossomed into his 'Mummy's' most expensive piggy, he has the looks and attitude, he also has a very bizarre nature. Despite all..

Milo is a HUGE personality, I'd like to say he chose me but I don't think he did!

Perhaps no surprising given what I do to Womble's hair, but I actually prefer Milo after Esme's haircut!

My first pigs, Big Dave, Little Dave and Cardboard Box (aka Boxy) weren't officially rescue pigs, I rehomed them privately. They were in a bit of a state, all under nourished and crawling with mites and lice. They were a typical example of a child getting bored with them rolleyes

Jeff was a rescue from the RSPCA here in Bristol. He was originally with another male, and they were another case of the kids got fed up with them, they didn't have a big enough cage, they started fighting so the parents signed them over to the RSPCA. They separated the two (Jeff was the one being bullied!), and when I started volunteering there, he was immediately my favourite animal in the entire place, and it was only a matter of time until I found an excuse to bring him home!

A few months later, I adopted Cameo from All About the Animals in Wales. This is her story taken from the original post in the rehoming section.

"Cameo and Pixie are a gold tricoloured coronet and a slate blue and chocolate argente and white english crested.

Cameo came in along with an older litter of girls after she'd been bought at a local garden centre along with another 'female' who turned out to be male. Sadly the garden centre gave poor advice and so the lady became over run and so the family came in to the rescue. Cameo has had 3 litters and is only just a year old. Pixie is her grandaughter. These girls both have very mildly formed congenital cataracts. Pippin (daughter to Cameo, mother to pixie) went blind quickly, litrally over night and the whole eye went white very quickly, within days, however, although Cameo developed a very, very thin slither along one eye (vet had to really study to see it) and Pixie has a very, very light mist to one corner of one eye this hasn't got worse since it was diagnosed a couple of months ago. This does not mean to say that the cataract won't grow in time or that they won't develop them in the other eyes either. Guinea pigs have poor eyesight anyway and so if they do develop them they will adjust easily. Its cosmetic more than anything. Cataracts won't effect their health in any other way or their quality of life.

These girls were going to become permanent residents but as the cataracts haven't changed in the last couple of months, I feel that they could quite easily go out to a new home."
