hi everyone, I introduced myself a couple of weeks back, with my first ever guniea pig, Gandalf. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to these lovely little animals but I'm getting there I think. Gandalf has been neutered since about a week and we also got a second guniea pig , a female called Nelly , they are both in cages next door to each other at the moment. They have to stay this way for another 5 weeks. I am hoping to get a c&c cage, for when they do. If someone can point me in the right direction please ? And what size would I need for two ?

They are both in cages , that are about 3 foot by about a foot and half. Which isn't ideal but they seem to have plenty of space to do crazy things at the moment.

When we first got nelly she didn't really come out of her hidey house for the first 4 days , dragging her food into her house and only comming out to drink when we were not in the room. Well over the last 2/3 days she has turned right round. Still runs away if we try to catch her (but have only tried once to move her ) but she comes out and eats while we are in the same room and this evening has been doing lots of laps and jumps , which from what I have read is a good thing, right? Both have them have been on major mad ones this evening , Gandalf has been going into his I'm house and flipping it over and then lapping his cage over and over ! Been really fun to watch. Bit of a pointless post I know , but I find I just end up watching them all evening , also another thing is Gandalf recently has started sleeping out side of his hidey house , just lying down stretched out. Why ?

Sounds like she's settling in well! As for the Gandalf situation I would imagine it's because he's more confident with another piggy around :)

You can either buy a C&C cage kit (for around £70-£100) or make your own for around £40 which is what I did.

Might be worth putting your location on your profile so we can see where you're based. I'm going on UK pricing so idk about US pricing.

Also pics please :D

Stunning piggies! Nelly has the same ballerina bum as my Tonks omg

Well the minimum you want really is 4ft by 2ft but if you can go bigger (and still be able to clean it alright) then it's always better! 4x4ft would be amazing, they'd love that.

Awh great thankyou , I'll have a look at them. Okay , I could go on a an L shape which would be 4 ft along one side and then 4 ft along the other side , if that makes sense , that would work okay wouldn't it? I'm looking forward to being able to put them both in together. It took them a good few days to notice one an other and then when they did Gandalf did spend about an hour squealing by the side of the cage. And now they do a bit of sniffing at each other but then do there own thing. I would love love love more ! They are too addictive ! But I just don't have the space for any more cage ha

So like this?

He's going to love having a wife! I know, I have 4 and would love to have 6 one day. But I'm only going to add more piggies if they're single baby sows who need homes, so I'm sure I'll stay at 4 for the time being!

That's the kind of thing I'd love ! Yeah he was really made up to have someone next to him !

I got him from a pets @ home adoption part and he was all on his own in one of them tanks so he couldn't even see other guineas :( and he was there apparently as too dominent with males, I didn't realise at the time they like to be in groups/pairs untill I got him home and read up about them. Makes me wonder if someone else had got him would they of thought to neauter him and get him a wife or would they of kept him alone forever :( the change in him since being along side her has been amazing , he does all these funny little things that I had read up on, on here but hadn't witness him doing, for example even running around he didn't do, he was just sort of moping along. Bless him !

P@H are rubbish and don't even understand animals lol. Someone I know's boyfriend works for them and apparently they accidentally throw hamsters in the bin when cleaning them out... Pretty often too. They're always found though. Sorry, they just make me cross because they don't know their arse from their elbow haha.

They also keep like 5-10 males together in a small enclosure so that's probably why he "had an issue with males" because that sized group is not okay, especially in a 2 by 3-4ft glass box.

It's lovely that he's had a great change! Actually my older 2 became happier when I introduced the baby 2 as well. They love a bit of company! :)

I've nothing to add because @Cavy Kung-Fu has given you excellent advice and @PiggyOwner has provided the links :) It sounds like they will both have a very happy life with plenty of space and a human slave doing what ever it takes to make them happy :)
If you would like some inspiration on what to put in your C&C there's a link here showing what our members have done for theirs :) Member Gallery: C&C cages/homemade cages
It's really heartening to read that Gandalf is stretching out in the open as it's a very good indicator of feeling safe x
