I dont know if this is a strange / silly request but is anybody who is just about to clip their piggies nails able to post a picture please so i can get an idea on what length they need to be done?
I have never owned GP`s until getting my boys about a month ago and the vet said they were fine and i will "know" when they need it?!? Walters are white so i can see the quick and at present they dont seem too long (i am going by how much nail i leave before the quick when cutting my dogs nails) Williams are black but seem similar length at present so they appear all good. I have read on internet some only cut their GP nails once a year - some do it once a month? And a friend told me she gets her GP`s nails clipped just as they start to curl under?

i have had mine 3 years and still can not get hang of cutting nails has they hate it plus i get nips and foot tugging basil is easy he has see though nails so i cut just near the pink quick freddie has black nails and i have tried to put light near so can see where quick is does not work they say you can see ridges in nail can not see freddies i do mine usually every 2 months

You might find this handy......Ellie explains it clearly :)

I think the easiest thing to do is just nip off a little at a time :)

Thank you i will have a good read of this later. I am just back from William`s free vet check and she said that he looks great and that at present his nails are in good shape but i can have them trimmed every few months just to keep them neat and tidy (thankfully it was my usual vet who seems to be pretty clued up than some of the others)

You can ask your vet or a nurse to show you the first time or you can even have them trimmed at the vets.

Baby nails need to be from about 6-10 months when the baby nails start to grow. They will grow quickest during the second year of their life and slow down. The nails of older piggies often thicken or grow more twisted. I found that I need to cut nails about once a month - you *** notice when your boys stop running around as much, that is usually a good sign that the nails are too long!

Thats fab, thanks :) x

Ive done it with my piggies, its easier in theres two people (one to hold and stroke them and one to cut) Ive found using nail clippers easier than scissors. Dont cut too short or they will bleed, just clip off the 'white' part of the nail, avoid the pik bit closer to thier feet. hope this helps =] xx

Thanks, it wasnt really the how to cut part i was bothered about as i clip my dogs nails myself - it was at what length as i had read in some places to wait until they curled under to clip and that just seemed a bit cruel to me... apologies if i had confused you/anyone with my original question ")

I'm a coward, I take mine to the vet to get done, for £4 they get clipped weighed and general once over for peace of mind. ;)
