Today I noticed that Vader's (Darthvader!) front paw nails are getting a little long for the first time (9months old) - I cut all my other piggys nails - no problem, BUT Vader is jet black all over even his nails and - I am worried how to cut them as can't see how far to go

Gorgeous lad! I do the same with my Hazelnut who has 3 black feet - just a little at the same time each month. Strangely, the only time I've made him bleed is when cutting his one white foot! At the last minute he squirmed. I now stuff his mouth with a parsley stalk while I'm cutting.

Yes, a little often is the best way. They also soon get used to have theirs nails cut when it's done regular & it get's easier for you & them.
