Nail Growing Wide Instead Of Long?

Hey, this is my first post. I couldn't find any other threads matching my problem, but if you can find one just link me to it. So, my pig has some sort of growth engulfing two of his front toes and it keeps them bound together. It is hard and I'm 99% sure it's the same stuff his nails are made out of. At first I just thought his toes were connected, but they're separate and it just looks like his nails are formed together in a big blob of toenail material. One of his nails continues to grow normally out of the ball so I was wondering if his outside nail just twisted around the other one? The pet store didn't do a good job of trimming the pigs' nails so he had some twisted nails when I got him. If anyone has any idea what this is, please let me know!

Hi Mari,

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like a possible foot spur but would need to be seen by a vet to diagnose. Here is a link to Guinea Lynx which has some information on them http://www.guinealynx.info/feet.html#spurs but please get him checked out by the vets they will be able to advise and show you how to trim his nails safely.

Thank you! My other pig has spurs on her paws, and this doesn't look anything like spurs. It's definitely only on his toenails. I'm going to take him to the vet because it looks like a deformation in his nail and I can't tell if the cuticle is in the regular place or not.
