I've been so upset tonight, been crying so much! ):
I heard a bang outside in the guinea pig so went to see what it was, there was blood everywhere one of the guinea pigs nails have come off, lots of blood came out, I was panicking and started crying me mum rang the vets and they said to put super glue when it's stops bleeding anybody heard of this!?
It did stop for a while but she's keeps on biting it so it's been bleeding again not as much like but I've put her with her sister in the bottom of the hutch with no hay (I was thinking maybe the hay might get stuck in the nail and make it bleed even more) with a box and newspaper on the floor! See if she rests it, just hope she's gunna be okay! ):

Ohhh what a shock! Poor piggy. I have no idea about the superglue, sounds a bit odd, but you'll be needing something to cover the wound and prevent infection ?/ I found this however on guinealynx...
'Occasionally a guinea pig's nail may catch and tear completely off. If bleeding is excessive, styptic powder may help. Usually the nail will grow back, although it may be more than a month before you see the new one.
See a vet if there are any signs of infection like swelling or feeling hot to the touch.'

I'd wait before applying super glue, I'm sure the piggy could eat it off anyway.
Hope your piggy gets better soon

Don't use super glue. Do you have any corn flour in the house? You can use that if you have any, then get the pig to the vets in the morning if it's a severe break in the nail.

I was thinking the superglue is weird!

I've left her in her hutch, I can't get to sleep cause I'm that worried about her!
If she ain't no better tomora gunna take her to the vets!
*fingers crossed* she okay tho!

Try the flour, it will help dry it up and stop the bleeding and keeping her away from anything that could get stuck in it is a good idea. I wouldn't be able to sleep either lol hopefully she will be grand xox

Hello there,
I had this with george last year. His nail got caught on the carpet and was bleeding for ages. Probably for the best part of 30 minutes. His whole nail came out and I was so worried. I just wet a clean towel and applied it while it was bleeding. It was obviously causing him pain as he wimpered and couldn't put it on the floor for most of the day after. Also, he bit me while I was trying to clean it up so it was obviously paining him as I was being very gentle. Poor lamb :( It's healed up beautifully though and I noticed that his nail is just starting to grow back 6 months later!

Oh, and I forgot to say that the vet recommended syptic powder for incase he caught it again, but it didn't bleed after that 1st time. It's supposed to stop the bleeding quickly. If you think your piggy is still feeling pain after 7 days, i'd take it back to the vet so they can check everything is ok. Don't they bleed so much for something so small?! Georgie sends get well wishes to your girly piggy x

Hi love OMG what a horrible thing to happen, poor little girlie :0:...
Sending some healing wheeeeeeeeeeeeks and gentle cuddles XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
and i hope you got some sleep too HUGS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

((HUGS))- poor pig! My pig Linney did this a few months ago- she was jumping out of the cage, caught one her her front nails, and basically ripped it off. There was a ton of blood, but it did stop with some light pressure and she never appeared to be in any real pain (no limping or anything like that.) For a long time I thought she had damaged the nail bed enough that it would not grow back in, but about six months later she does have a nail on that toe again. We watched for signs of infection (heat, swelling, discharge) but she recovered just fine on her own, no vet visit needed. Hope your pig heals up just as well!

Yeah! You should have seen all the blood!
Just been down to see her and she seems fine, it's still bleeding a tiny bit but I think she's cleaned it! Which is a good thing yeah!?
Do you know where you can get that powder from!?
Thank you

She doesn't seem to be in pain with it, she was letting my brother put pressure on it yesterday to try and stop it from bleeding, she was even popcorning on me! She's like a laid back piggie!

Just like to say that super glue is used in medical care. I've never heard of its use in piggies though.

I have really bad excema as does my dad and the advice from the dermatologist when we have open cracks ( mine is worst on my feet) is to super glue the skin together, this had come from our different doctors.

Not sure i would use it for pigs though especially when flour does the trick.

Hope your little one is doing okay

sorry to digress..........but you use it on yourself? wow i'd be allergic to it.......blah i'm eczema sufferer too but allergic to so many things......but when my skin decides rolleyesmallethead i'm not you typical allergic sufferer :))
my neighbour has bad eczema on her feet, she has cracks probably 80% maybe a bit less yearly...... she goes thru hell as i imagine you do too
