Hi is it a boy or girl? Color?
Often you need to have them with you for a day or so to find out their pigsonality
But having some ideas helps too

Hi and :wel:!
A pigture would be nice and I always can't decide on names!
Would you be able to add your location on your profile?

Hi and welcome!

Is it going to be an only piggy or is it going to be a companion to an existing one? Please don't keep just a single piggy! What gender are you planning to get? have you got a good standard rescue within your reach where you can be guaranteed to get only healthy, not pregnant sows or stably bonded boars and that will help you find a character compatible mate?

As to names, you may want to make a shortlist of names which you like best, and then see which name sticks after a week or two of trying them all. It is not just the looks, but also the personality of a piggy that determines the name. I have on occasion changed the name of piggies of mine when their personality just didn't fit the concept of their starting-out name.

It would also help us a lot if you please added your country to your details. We have got members from all over the world from very different climates and backgrounds. Being able to take into consideration what is available or possible for you allows us to tailor any advice and recommandations and it also prevent misunderstandings and misleading advice. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thanks!

I agree, your piggy will be best off with a companion. It is OK to get a single piggy and then take it to a rescue for introductions to let him/her choose a friend, or source another from somewhere else. Rarely a guinea pig will prefer to be on it's own but it is rare, and most pine for company. You can see it when you have a lone pig and introduce it to another, they very often are almost overcome with joy. They forget their nerves and live in the beautiful moment of finding a friend :). It's like a weight lifts off their minds and they become a more active and 'bouncy' piggy, with a spring in their step and an enthusiasm that was missing before. There can be fall-outs too though, so it's best to read up first :)
If you know you are getting a piggy but haven't decided where from yet, a local rescue is a good first choice. They will often have pairs that are already bonded, and they can give you much better advice than the vast majority of pet shops can. Online places such as PreLoved have many guinea pigs looking for new homes, many are loved pets who's owners just cannot keep them due to illness etc, and many are from homes where the pigs were bought for kids, and the kids have lost interest. You can ask about the character of the guinea pigs and get to know about them before you commit to buy, and you know you are giving them a second chance at happiness :)

Names - oh well, I've chosen names before meeting piggies, and when I knew I was getting my first (rehomed to me from a family who couldn't be bothered with her) I had thought that I wanted to name her after something sciencey, to do with Physics or Chemistry, topics that I enjoy. However when she arrived she had dark fur and hid a lot, in the darkest places she could find. She blended in with the Shadows, so I called her Shadow. My next piggy brightened up her life no-end and is a warm colour, so I named her Sunrise, for the start of a bright new era for Shadow. From there I tried to keep the theme of weather, and so it went.
My later two piggies already had names when I got them, and their names stuck.

It's waffle I know, from me, but I am trying to demonstrate that no matter what name we choose, and what theme we think we will go with, it often get's thrown out of the window after getting to know our new Piggy for a few days. A name often jumps out at you :)

Please give updates, would love to know how your new piggy/piggies get on :) x
