I agree, your piggy will be best off with a companion. It is OK to get a single piggy and then take it to a rescue for introductions to let him/her choose a friend, or source another from somewhere else. Rarely a guinea pig will prefer to be on it's own but it is rare, and most pine for company. You can see it when you have a lone pig and introduce it to another, they very often are almost overcome with joy. They forget their nerves and live in the beautiful moment of finding a friend

. It's like a weight lifts off their minds and they become a more active and 'bouncy' piggy, with a spring in their step and an enthusiasm that was missing before. There can be fall-outs too though, so it's best to read up first

If you know you are getting a piggy but haven't decided where from yet, a local rescue is a good first choice. They will often have pairs that are already bonded, and they can give you much better advice than the vast majority of pet shops can. Online places such as PreLoved have many guinea pigs looking for new homes, many are loved pets who's owners just cannot keep them due to illness etc, and many are from homes where the pigs were bought for kids, and the kids have lost interest. You can ask about the character of the guinea pigs and get to know about them before you commit to buy, and you know you are giving them a second chance at happiness
Names - oh well, I've chosen names before meeting piggies, and when I knew I was getting my first (rehomed to me from a family who couldn't be bothered with her) I had thought that I wanted to name her after something sciencey, to do with Physics or Chemistry, topics that I enjoy. However when she arrived she had dark fur and hid a lot, in the darkest places she could find. She blended in with the Shadows, so I called her Shadow. My next piggy brightened up her life no-end and is a warm colour, so I named her Sunrise, for the start of a bright new era for Shadow. From there I tried to keep the theme of weather, and so it went.
My later two piggies already had names when I got them, and their names stuck.
It's waffle I know, from me, but I am trying to demonstrate that no matter what name we choose, and what theme we think we will go with, it often get's thrown out of the window after getting to know our new Piggy for a few days. A name often jumps out at you
Please give updates, would love to know how your new piggy/piggies get on
