my lovely pig who is 6.5-7 years old seemed fine and normal last night. Was eating hay with her sister as usual. This am she was not interested in pellets or hay and had dry discharge around/above her nose. She has eaten a treat a vitamin c tablet and some cucumber but not her regular food. I have called around but the closest vet that can see her today is 1.5 hours away, one way. I'm not sure how she would handle the stress of that much travel while not feeling well. She is sleeping now and so far all discharge looks old/dry. Anyone have thoughts on this? We are keeping a close eye until tomorrow for now when the regular vet is open. Also it has been very hot/humid but we are working on cooling their room down. Any thoughts/advice much appreciated.

:agr: Your little girl could be coming down with a URI but only a vet can properly diagnose and prescribed the correct treatment.

Sadly, URI's can be fatel if left untreated x

Please have her seen by a vet as soon as possible for URI (potentially fatal respiratory infection) and start syringe feeding and watering her. It is most important to keep her guts going; URI is an appetite killer. The sooner you can get a vet diagnosis and an antibiotic, the higher the chances that she will make it.

Totally thought I replied to this night of must've forgotten to hit post! I spoke with the vet again she said to continue cooling the room for an hour and if she didn't look better to bring her in...amazingly she improved and started eating again! I spoke to the vet another time and she said as long as my piggy was eating half her normal amount that she thought she could wait til the next day to come in if she wasn't better and she may just be hot. Must've been right bc she has been fine ever since :) thank you all for your advice I appreciate it and am happy my girl is back to her normal self :)
