I have a lovely piggy that I rescued from Gumtree - didn't know much about him at all but think he is around 6-9 months. I have taken him to the vet to be checked over and all seems to be well. For the first couple of weeks he hardly made any sound at all, but now is very vocal! However, his wheek sounds very nasal...that's the only way I can think to describe it! Any ideas if this could be a problem, or is it normal?...he sounds different to my other two. The other thing he does is 'murmer'. We will be sitting watching television and every now and then I can hear him making this little noise in his house - did wonder if he was snoring?! Any ideas welcomed. Many thanks :)

He could just be "finding" his wheek.. My youngest didn't week for the first 2 months or so of being with me, now she does all the time and it is THE strangest thing I have ever heard. She doesn't seem to be able to wheek normally and doesn't seem to be growing out of it either!

If you are concerned about a possible stuffed nose and it's been a little while since his vet check then you could take him back to make sure his chest is clear and he doesn't have any other URI symptoms.

If all is well, it must just be his sound!

Thanks @Adelle ...he only went to vets a couple of weeks ago and seems fine in himself so hopefully it is just that he is 'finding his wheek' as you say, fingers crossed :)

Just a quick follow up question please?! If I did take him to the vets again and mentioned this nasal sound, what exactly would they be able to tell from just looking at him? Pretty sure he wouldn't make any noises at all whilst I was there so how would they identify if, for example, he had some sort of obstruction in his nose etc? More than happy to make another appointment but not sure what I would be expecting them to be able to do. If I recorded his wheeking do you think that would be helpful? He seems very happy in himself and has been gradually gaining weight over past few weeks. Thanks again.

The recording will help, they should also listen to his chest and throat and check his eyes and nose. They can check the air flow through the nostrils which would help them rule out congestion.
