My guinea pigs are eating a lot of grass, wild natural forage and Timothy Hay pellets, so do they still need hay as I ran out of it?
 
They need large amounts of hay and grass at all times. Hay is the main part that they can never run out of.

The wild forage and any veg you give is supplementary and makes around 10% of the diet.

Pellets are the only part of the diet that they can do without. They should only have one tablespoon per pig per day.
So If you run out of pellets it doesn’t matter, but running out of hay is a big problem!
 
They need to eat constantly so plenty of hay should be available round the clock.
 
Oh dear, hope that they are ok and dont die just eating grass and fresh forage until I can get to pick up hay on Wednesday. Thankfully, they do enjoy grass a lot more than hay, so are eating loads.

You will need to ensure there is a constant supply of fresh grass in their cage at all times until you can get hay.
Also ensure that their poops remain normal. Lots of grass and no hay has the potential to cause soft poops - while it sounds like they are used to grass and fresh food which is good, they do still need hay to maintain the balance in the gut.

Is there somebody who can get hay for you tomorrow? Leaving it until Wednesday really isn’t ideal
 
My guinea pigs are doing great and had even gained weight this morning. They have normal poos too. I do find I get a lot of anxiety with following this forum as it seems that negative and worst scenarios are put forward to owners. I will be leaving it soon.
 
I’m pleased your piggies are doing well. I’m sorry you feel these comments were negative. The advice is to have hay available at all times.
 
I’m sorry you feel it’s negative but our advice is factual - they always need hay available to them even if they are getting some grass. I mentioned the dysbiosis not to be negative but so that you are aware and prepared if it occurs while they are without hay and in the days afterwards.

Everyone is just trying to help and want the best for all guinea pigs.
 
We've got to think about the other people reading this thread too (either now or in the future). It would be irresponsible of us to give incorrect advice.
Have you managed to get some hay for your piggies?
 
Sorry you feel the forum is negative but we always try to give the best advice for the welfare of the piggies.
