I’m planning to use natures own meadow hay as my permanent hay choice. Has anyone used it on the forum and if you have, can you tell me some pros and cons? I’ve also got a few questions, is it dusty?, is it stalky?

Thank you.

I’ve just bulk bought some of their meadow hay (the one you’re describing) as well as their sweet green and Timothy. I mixed them all and gave that. I’m quite happy with all of the hays, there is some dusty residue towards the bottom as with any hay but overall was nice and not too stalky!

I've fed it for years, mine love it. It does vary a lot from batch to batch as to how stalky, short, long etc it is, as with all hays it depends on the growing conditions. The last two batches I've had were short and very soft, piggies not so keen on eating it but they do pick some out. I buy a mix of the green and the ordinary meadow.
edited forgot to say not very dusty at all.

I use it and it’s generally nice hay. It varies through the year ie first and second cut but isn’t dusty or stalky that I‘ve had so far. It’s usually quite green and shortish cut (but not bitty) - I use it in conjunction with baled farm hay which is longer but the pigs like both of them. I have recently had a batch with a few twigs in but customer services have been good in dealing with this issue. I will be ordering more.😁

You can always have bedding hay and feeding hay if quality isn't great. I used to use nature's own Timothy 5a day hay as feeding hay (in hay racks and hay bags). It's nice and The Range usually has them on offer, too. Then I switched to haybox Timothy as feeding hay. The 5kg box works out around the same amount, delivered and no plastic.

That's what I do, although mine are refusing to eat the Hay Box hay now. When Hay Box were having their despatch problems I got some Timothy Hay Company Hay they prefer it to Hay Box, I'm thinking of switching for a while, they do seem to like a change from time to time!

I use Natures Own meadow hay (mainly as bedding - or shall I say as the thick borrow layer in their hay trays) then I use the timothy hay or the sweet green hay over the top... only dusty at the bottom of the bag which i think is the same with any hay in a bag.. only ever had 1 bag where i thought the quality wasn't great.

I use Natures Own as well as bales of meadow hay bought directly from a farm. The piggies like it all and don't seem too fussy about which they get. I fill their hay loft with the meadow hay from the farm and add a few handfuls of Natures Own on the top. :D

Where do you bulk buy it and how much is it?

You can get bale of meadow hay at country stores. Make sure you mention it's for Guinea pigs and that it is hay and not straw. It works out cheaper and they're generally good quality, however storage might be an issue as they're not the easiest to store.

Nature's Own have a website.

www.naturesownpets.co.uk

I think the prices are good I buy the Sweet Green Hay and the 5 a day hay, next day delivery is free for orders over £19.95.

Also their packaging is compostable.

I have used Natures Own Hay and it’s a good standard hay, mine like it. I get a 3.75 kg bale for about £3 from a local equestrian/farm/pet supply shop when passing. I also get a small farm bale for £4, I tend to use that mainly for bedding although they like that too
