Hey everyone...

I was just wondering i anyone could help me with a few questions?

I was thinking about getting all the boys neautered, so all the piggies can play together and stuff...
but I was wondering if 2 males and 2 females will get along okay living together? Or would you have to have 2 sows for every 1 boar?

Just thinking about the housing and stuff... I wanted 1 big group... so unless I get about 4 more sow thats impossible isnt it :-\

Sorry if I asked any silly questions ::)

Thanks!

I think it's one boar to how ever many sows..I remember someone saying if there's two boars with the sows then they will fight? Can't you have a pair of boars?

Yer... If I cant have 1 huge group I'm going to have...

Wilson, Cindy and the female baby together and
Angus and the male baby together :)

Every attempt I have known to get two boars to live with a group of sows has failed, resulting in severe injuries. In other words there can be only one boar in a group of guinea pigs (it is unnatural to have two boars in a herd). Saying that my two boars happily live above / under each other with a sow living with one of them and never attempt to fight and all three can mix on neutral territory with no attempt of fighting, however, I would never let them live in the same cage and this behaviour is very rare. Do not let all your guineas interact together, it will not work. :)

does that mean, my two neutered boars (and 2 sows) could have floor time together? would be worried about Star and Charlie having floor time, they have met through a divide and seemed to like eachother??

I'm sure they will be fine... on supervised floor time all together... When Cindy was pregnant (not heavily) I Put her, Angus and Wilson down together while I cleaned their cages and they all snuggled together... no fights at all... :)

I personally wouldn't advise, mine are just very laid back guineas and the girl keeps the boys in check. :)

hey again... just wondering what you think about this... ?

Wilson and Cindy

Patchouli and her brother

Angus and a female friend?

Then I would have 6 piggies... (3 neautered males and 3 un-neautered females...)

What do you think?

Of I could have...

Wilson, Cindy and Patchouli

Angus and female friend

Male baby and female friend

(all boys neautered)

OR

Cindy, Wilson and Patchouli

Angus and male baby

(Wilson is the only neautered boar)

I personaly like the top option best...

Can't you just pair your males and keep the girls all together? You were saying the other day that you were struggling to pay vets bills and its going to cost to have your males neutered.

All my males are paired with another male and are very happy together! :)

Totally agree :) It would work better I think :)

Well I was definatley getting Wilson done, so he could be with Cindy and probably her daughter... and while I was at it I was considering doing the other 2 boys so they could be with ladies...

Its definatley a long term thing... not just right away... prob not even in the next 6 months... Angus and the baby boy arent even close to 6 months of age...

Also Angus wont get along with either of the boys...

So willson lives with his son and the girls live together?

Why dont you just save up and get angus neutered and in with the girls and leave the others...I havent heard of anyone having more than one boar with girls so I dont think that will work :(

i didnt think of doing it that way...

I know it complicates thing a bit but I really want to have Wilson and Cindy together... they were so happy together before Cindy was pregnant :-\

Its confusing... theres so many options its so hard choosing which is right :-\

Weeeelll...If you want to get them all done eventually, you could get angus done as soon as you can and put him in with the girls so hes not on his own....keep angus and his son together for the time being but you could get wilson done at a later date and put him in with cindy then? Its up to you hun, you know your piggies best! :)

:) thanks... have no dea what I will do ;D

Wilson will prob be first, then Angus, then baby... coz anngus is only 11 weeks... and wilson is 1 year...

Um.. well o course theyre asleep for the procedure... and I think they go on pain meds afterwards so I thinkt here is minimal pain... nothing too bad :)

oh no... I wouldnt want to be a vet then ;D ;D too many fines and stuff ;D

I want to be a police officer :police:

A vet when i was 2 but since i was 3 a police officer :police:

It is entirely up to you but like others have said I don't think getting another one or two guineas would be a good idea. I know you wanted a big herd but you have five wonderful guineas, surely that is enough until you are able to afford and accommodate more, which I doubt you will be able to do for a few years. Plus the more guineas you have the less time you have to spend with them. I would go with the third option as this is more suitable and is what you want. :)

I want to be an RSPCA Inspector :police:

So I can be the animal police :police:

:D :D

Thanks heaps Cavy Crazy... I think that is what I will do anyway.... like you said its best for what I have :D

My auntie went to the chinese herbalist that we always see, and the lady always asks about my piggies and my auntie told her about me getting the boys done... and the herbalist said she might have somthing that can take 'the zing out of their fishies' (in other words... make them sterile) dont panic guys... she is going to study it first to make sure it is safe medication and will definatley make them sterile... its all natural herbs :)

What do you think... I think this is great as long as its safe and will def not let them be daddies :D Its way better than the stress of the operations :D
