I addopted 2 guinea pigs one of which was only 3 months and got diareeha and died within 24 hours ,her sister (my other guinea pig was pregnant, she gave birth to two healthy babys and 3 weeks later also died from having diareeha. Both my original pigs where never actually diagnoised with what caused the diareeha i am so confused and heart broken .
I now have 2 babys whom are 3 weeks old and are without a mum i am in 2 hearts whether to keep them or give them back to where i addopted from as i am so scared the babys may cary whatever caused diareeha in there mother and auntie .
Can anyone tell me what they would do and whether they think the babys will get poorly as they drank there mothers milk so could the bug or whatever caused the diareeha or do people think because they are a new generation they mighe be okay ? or is it simply in the genes
what do people think, has anyone been in the same perdicament ?
And there anything i can give the babys as a perentative
Thankyou

I would contact the place you adopted them from and they should be able to provide help. They might be able to take them back in and nurse them better for you.

The babies arnt ill they are very heathy and fully weened but my worry is they might get ill in the future . The place i addoped them from are not a charity its just one lady giving homes to guinea pigs shes not a vet so that wouldnt be much help

Sorry, I assumed when you said adopted you meant from a rescue.

If they're not ill then they should be fine.

But you could always take them to a good guinea pig vet for a check up. I always do that with new pigs.

Most small animal rescues in the UK arent charities as the minimum income for registering as a charity is much higher than home-run rescues will take (most are predominantly self-funded) vs larger adoption centres (who will regularly take larger donations).

What support/ advice were you given from them at the time when the adults were ill?

All she said is that she would take the babies back and just have critical care powder to had incase tbe babies started with diareeha i just want to know was it an ilness or was it inherited what should i do to keep the babies from getting it . Both my guinea pigs who died of the diareeha /ilness was between 12 and 16 weeks old the babiea are 3 weeks

You will need to check the gender of your baby pigs if you are planning on keeping them together. Brothers can get sisters pregnant at 3 weeks of age.
I would personally keep them for a bit and monitor them and see how they go. You could always take them to a vet for a check up if you are concerned.

They are both females so there okay and yeah i will get a vets advice tomorrow . I just wondered if anybody had herd of a simular situation
