Hi

Has anyone got any good tips on the best way to trim piggies hair? ?
Thanks
Sam

Well i only trim one of my piggies as she has long hair - Has your piggy got long hair ?

If so i have no tips as i just chop it off otherwise if i mess around and do a good job of it she wont sit still ::) ;D

I trimmed Mildred's hair for the first time last week as it is quite long around her bottom and it was starting to look yellow where she had obviously sat in her wee ::)
She sat still in my OH hand with her bum hanging over the edge of his palm whilst being fed spinach to keep her occupied and I trimmed it a little at a time, it's not very straight though ;D I think I will trim it little and often to keep it from getting messy.

Round-ended scissors - that's the best tip! Just in case - when they wriggle it's too easy to cut something you didn't mean to!

Two pairs of hands helps, and cut away from the pig :)

The only hair that needs to be trimmed is the hair they can sit on. If you get a pair of dog face trimming scissors they do the job well, and are safe as they have rounded ends and are an appropriate size.

Turn the piggie over and hold him/her firmly. Cut a line along their legs from one side to the other always keeping your fingers between the piggies skin and the scissors so that you can not cut them. This way you can feel exactly where to cut. It is a nice U shape area that comes off quite nicely. Gather the hair from their back down towards their bum as you hold them so you can get all the hair that is long enough for them to wee on. Trim carefully round thier private bits making sure again to use your fingers to keep their skin from getting cut. This can be done when you have given a bath while the hair is still damp. then a quick blow dry and perhaps a wide toothed comb run through the coat and piggie should be neat and tidy. The rest of the coat should be left full length unless they are getting too hot in the summmer.
