Hi all,

I have just bought my piggies an indoor run and put newspaper down to stop any messes.

They keep eating it! I am really worried that ths will make them sick.

Will it?

If they just eat a tiny bit, or chew it, then it should be fine. The ink isn't toxic nowadays, or so I've read.

But if they eat a lot then it would be bad, so if they keep eating it, maybe you could put some hay or a blanket on top, fleece blankets are good because they're hard to chew. :)

No; paper and cardboard chewing is a national sport for piggies!

Can you get some cheap fleeces from a supermarket, primark, or a market stall to put (prewashed) on top? I would recommend using something that is water resistant as well as wipeable underneath if you are doing it regularly, like a sheet of plastic or some cheap laminate. Alternatively, use cheap beach towels, they absorb more water than newspaper before they leak.

No it won't do them any harm, but a fleece on top might be nice underfoot and snuggly :)

My Tyler has become something of a magician when it comes to cardboard boxes, one minute you see it then next it's gone, with no remains for clues! rolleyes

I've read that ink can be bad for piggies if they ingest too much...I would try these, I use them for my piggies' carrier and they've been working well. :)

Similar to the cage lining pads, you can get puppy training pads - only £1.99 for a pack of 14 at Home Bargains, and cover these with a fleece so they don't chew the puppy pads.

I also use these to line my cage, with a layer of cardboard, newspaper and hay on top but even then 1 of my piggies decided to dig up the corner of the cage and have a munch on the plastic underneath! :o

so make sure they can't get to the plastic......

Thank you for all the replies, I will try and get a fleece somewhere or pads.
