Hello all, I need some advice about increasing the size of my enclosure. I'm thinking to make a 5x3 grids, from my current 5x2. I heard it's better to go longer at 6x2, but I don't have the space. Would increasing it to 5x3 be beneficial at all?
There will be 3 piggies in there.

Absolutely, any increase in cage size is a big plus! Here’s our cage and hutches including sizes and shape options, you can also get ideas from forum members photos of their cages too

Thank you, I will look around the page for inspiration :)
If you could choose, though, would you pick 5x3 or 6x2? If 6x2 is better, I may be able to make it work.

Unlike for rabbits, piggies cages can be any shape as long as they meet square footage (and aren’t one grid wide). (Rabbit enclosures have to be a certain shape due to their need to run)

The only issue with a cage being 3 grids wide is that it can be tricky to reach the back without getting in the cage.

My pigs cage is a sort of T shape, its 3 grids wide in the middle and 2 grids wide at either end. Personally i agree the 3 grid wide part can be harder to reach when cleaning so as long as you’re happy to lean and possibly need to put a foot or arm in the cage to reach 3 grid wide works perfectly fine. Any cage size increase will be of benefit though so the shape really doesn’t matter!

I have a 5x3 and love it. The 3 width means there's still plenty of zoomie turning space even with a row of hides down the back! Mine is on a table and I have ratchet clips joining two grids at the front and on the side so I can open a "door" and lean in to clean the back. I'm 5' 4" ish and can reach to clean okay with a grid open.

I had a 5x3 with a further 2x2 square attached to a corner and I preferred it to the 6x3 I had previously, but they were for two different rooms and the second one was what the boxroom could accommodate. However my cages are on the floor and I climb in to clean them rather than having to reach for things.

But if you can do it, the 5x3 would give you more space and there's no reason to go longer instead of wider purely on shape.
