Hey guys - I joined a few months ago but forgot the log in details for my old account, haha! Just wanted to get your opinion on choosing the right companion for my 5 year old sow, named Bay-pig (aka Chunka-munka).

Bay has been in a pen with 3 potential matches (all seniors) for 2 days now and hasn't shown a strong interest towards a particular pig - she's pretty chill with all of them. Trouble is, the amazing woman that runs the shelter is coming to pick up 2 of the pigs tonight, but I haven't figure out which one I should keep back. I stayed up all last night reading through the posts about bonding and herd dynamics - but I'm still confused. If you've got a spare minute, I'd really value your input. Here are the contenders:

#1 - She and Bay like to eat together and the two tend to be in the same area most of the time. I've seen #1 lick Bay's ear, share a hidey for a few seconds, and Bay laid down under a hidey while she was standing beside it. But they'll teeth chatter at each other and raise chins often, before #1 runs away. They are the only piggies of the bunch to do this.

#2 - She and Bay happily eat at the hay pile. When I do spot cleans and remove the hides, #2 will follow Bay around - nose to bum. Bay has been seen lifting #2 chin. But #2 tries to come and say hi to Bay or is just in the general vicinity, Bay starts loudy complaining and #2 runs away.

#3 - Probably the most tolerated pairing. When Bay starts complaining that someone is invading her personal bubble, this piggy will just wonder off. They'll happily sit near each other at the hay pile. But unlike the other 2, #3 doesn't go looking for Bay's company and prefers to be with #2.

Cheers!

That's a tough choice, especially not seeing them.
I would probably go for #2 or 3.
2 wants to be friends and it might just take more time for Bay to except her.
With 3 they might live side by side for some time. This could grow into a friendship.

Maybe the lady from the rescue could give you advice before collecting the piggies.

Hi Viennese Furbabies - thank you so much for your reply! I really agree with what you said and have also asked the lady from the shelter to help me pick ;)
