Okay so I had little toffee out for lap time tonight when I noticed he has a rather big lump on one side, and not on the other, I'm not sure but I'm getting a bit worried it may be a tumour, I have no idea what to do?! do i take him to the vet and pay £10 for a consultation for him to say hes fine, or do I wait until I see signs of illnesses or anything? help please!

Id say take him to the vets to have a check over :) it could just be a fatty lump but sometimes they can be abscesses or tumors which can turn fatal if left to long without treatment

I learnt that the hard way a good few years back now though mind you.

Thanks, I think i will, £10 is a small price to pay to know he's okay, the only reason I thought it might be a tumor is because I have had rats for 13 years of my life and a few of them had tumors, first thing coming to mind, will definatly get him to a vet thank you so much

Definately a vets trip. Lots of love to Toffee. Hope all goes well at vets.

Update!

It has been confirmed that Toffee has a tumor, a rather large one at that, and I have had the option whether to have him PTS or not, I decided against it because he dosen't seem too bothered by it, he is still running around and chewing thing, causing chaos, eating and drinking properly, so until he has any signs of it bothering him, he will remain with us, now wondering if I've made the right decision or not :{ But I do know that sooner or later this will begin to bother him and he will have to be PTS 8...

One of my piggies had a tumour a good few years ago now. The vet suggested to me that I put him to sleep there and then to stop him suffering. He wasn't suffering in my eyes - he was bright, he was eating, he was running round with his ladypig like there was nothing wrong. The only sign that there may have been something up with him was the fact that he was sickly thin - he never gained weight after his diagnosis.

So we said we'll take him home, see how he does and the minute he starts to show signs that it's getting to him then we'd reassess with the vet and look at helping him on his way. He got another 6 months of wedded bliss with his ladypig before slipping away peacefully one night in his sleep, snuggled right up to her. I'm glad I never took that off him, or her.

Do what your gut is telling you. The minute he starts to look like he's in pain or suffering in any way then do the kindest thing we can ever do for our pets. But for now enjoy the time you've got with him and spoil him rotten.

Thank you so much, I'm sure he'll have the best rest of his life, I just couldn't bring myself to have him PTS when he was perfectly fine! So glad I didnt, if he is going to pass I want him to be a comfortable as possible, so yes, after reading your comment I feel I have made the right decision to bring him home, thank you

Hi Cookiepig,

So sorry to hear about your piggy, can I ask how the vet diagnosed the tumour and where are you in Scotland?

Has the lump changed in any way since you've found it?

I hope your piggy has many year's left but well they are happy and eating I would not make the decision to let them go until there health is compromised.

Hi, I took toffee to a Mackie & Brechin vets in linlithgow, the vet had felt around the lump and I explained to him that it might just be a fatty lump, he then proceeded to tell me that fatty lumps are usually smaller than the one Toffee has and the way it felt he is sure its a tumor, so he has now taken blood and it has come back that it is a tumor, he has offered to have Toffee operated on but with my last pets operating on the tumor cost alot of money and the animal passed away a week later, and the lump has gotten slightly bigger since I first noticed it.

going through lumps with one of my boys at the moment so i know how you are feeling a little, i had some cells taken but it was inconclusive so I'm thinking what to do next.

I'm sorry your baby has a tumour, but personally i would have done the same, why pts when you baby is ok in itself, hope toffee has many years left with you x

Sorry to hear it's bad news for Toffee. *hugs* I agree with your decision in keeping him happy and comfortable for as long as possible. You'll know when it is time.
Lots of love and hugs to you and Toffee x

Thanks so much for the support, don't know what I would have done prior to this forum, Toffee and myself greatly appreciate it.:(|)

How did the vet take the blood from Toffee, do you know?

I actually don't know as I wasn't there when It happened, Toffee was left with the vet for a few hours, till he got everything sorted and all results came back and when I went to get him he was very much comfortable in a cat carrier wrapped in a towel with a piece of cucumber lol
