Hi

My new addition Lemmy (male)was neutered last Friday. He has been fantastic! I have been changing whole cage, fleece, hay and pads twice a day, now long do i continue this?

Thanks

Personally, I would keep doing this until the incision site (I assume there is one? I've never had a piggy neutered) has completely healed over. While the wound is still healing then there is always a chance of infection.

Glad to hear that he's responded so well!

I would expect it to be healed over by now. As long as the area where the stitches are is not weeping it should be safe to return to return to normal cage cleaning. I've been fostering 4 young boars who were neutered 6 weeks ago. The vet didn't give any special instructions other than to check for signs of a hernia around the genital area. They've all come through fine & are going back to the rescue next week for re-homing. I'm also fostering another boar, 2 year old Rex who was neutered 9 days ago. He's had slight problems over last 2 days pooing (similar to impaction). Took him to the vets this afternoon & she thinks it may be slight irritation from one of the internal stitches. I've just got to check him daily & take him back to her next week. Although no special instructions were given, I've been giving extra attention to there bedding area & spot-cleaning as necessary.
