My boys seem to always want food. I am trying to reduce the time their pellets are in their cage and i seem to be giving them loads of veg (morning and evening also something snacky at noon)

Any advice? or is this normal?

Piggies are eating machines!

As long as they have lots of hay constantly and it is refreshed regularly, then they wont go hungry.
Give them their one tablespoon of pellets and 50g of veg per day and then when its gone, its gone!

If they only have one tablespoon of pellets each, then you dont need to reduce the time they are in the cage

They are masters as getting their own way though - if you throw in food every time you walk past, then they will learn that and will ask for more and more. As I said, as long as they have always got fresh hay, then why will be fine!

@Merab's Slave describes piggies as appetites with fur which is about right!

My 2 old gals get 1 tablespoon of pellets each in the morning which I scatter feed, a bowl of mixed forage with Pro-C sprinkled on the top mid morning (they live in the garage so it helps to build up their winter reserves in the summer they don't get forage every day) and veg in the evening which is scatter fed too. The rest of the day they have hay, hay and more hay.

Best not to give into their begging otherwise they will know how to manipulate you to get extra food

Piggies are supreme manipulators. Don’t give in to begging habits or you’ll be making a rod fro your own back!

Please don't overfeed on veg; especially the calorific ones like carrots, sweetcorn etc. and keep your veg ideally as green as possible because they essentially replace the supplementary role of the wild forage that piggies would eat in addition to the grass/hay that would make the bulk of their diet and for which dental growth and the digestive system are laid out for.

is there a like an idea of what to do like 2 leafs of roamine lettuce, small amount of apple, etc for example. i dont know if I'm feeding them too much or too little. i no about pellets.

With veggies the guide is about one cup of assorted veggies per Piggie.
Mine get a romaine or a red cos leaf in the morning, a handful of herbs, normally coriander, at lunchtime and then a mixed bowl in the late afternoon.
Dill is an occasional lunchtime snack but not too often.
Apple should be fed sparingly as it’s high in sugar.
Mine get a variety of leaves, red pepper, cucumber, green beans, chicory or whatever else is in the fridge.
Fruit is a rare treat, as is carrot because of the sugar.
When I do give them apple they have to share 1 slice between them - about an eighth of an apple ( I eat the rest :D)

Hope this helps.

i have down (but never goes to plan)

Morning:
Romaine Lettuce (2-3 pieces as they need at least 1 each lol)
small amount of Cucumber

Noon ish:
Carrot or apple or broccoli or baby corn (depends what i have in)

Evening:
pepper (few small pieces- must be red lol,
coriander or mint or basil or dill
a little of cucumber (as they really like it)

They also get nuggets

That sounds great! The feeding guide describes veg and amounts, it's very good when we want to make sure we give enough and not too much.

If you feed in multiple feedjngs during the day, the easiest way may be to make up the batch in the morning and then split that. That way, you can’t find yourself inadvertently giving too much as their daily amount is already made up.

The feeding guide shows a sample plate of the daily amount for one piggy.

You don’t want to give carrot, apple or baby corn every day. These things are too high in sugar and they should only have one of those once per week. I would personally give them something more leafy at noon instead of those sugary items

They are very good and guilt tripping us into feeding them more of the 'good stuff' :lol!:
