I got a new baby girl guinea pig Phoebe. I have had her about a week. She had been eating really well until today. I would give her a little green/red lettuce, carrots and a small bit of red pepper. She was eating hay and pellets. Now today she did not eat her veggies and hardly ate any pellets did appear she had some hay. Noticed not alot of poops today as other days. I have tried to let her be unless I was cleaning the cage to let her settle in. Her poops seemed dry from the first day. I have a water bottle and a small dish of water in her cage. I have seen her drink from a bottle so I know she knows how. I gave her some extra water when I had her out to clean the cage as I was worried she was not getting enough water. She is skidish of course but she does run around the cage when I am cleaning. Should I be concerned or is this normal part of settling in a new home. I have an older girl Coco but have not put them together until I have Phoebe checked at the vet. Thank you. I tend to be a nervous 'mother'.

Hi!

If your guinea pig is under 4 months, then the need for companionship and guindance from older piggies outweighs any quarantining considerations. Babies should be introduced immediately and undergo the quarantine for their companion.
See a vet asap if you have concerns and push the cages together to see whether that is perking her up. If yes, please introduce as soon as possible.

Forgot to mention she is 2 months old..i will put cages together tonight

OMG! It was amazing...i had the baby in a c&C cube which I put in the big playpen I have for the playtime. She somehow got thru the one side and as soon as I brought the 3 year old out and put them in together..the baby started wheeking and they have been running around and the baby is following the older one around and around..and she is eating. Thank you so much...it was pretty amazing....Phoebe was just lonely.

That’s brilliant. Glad they like each other. ❤️
