So, I've has my pair of neutered boars for over a month now and I was under the impression that all was well. However, today I had the opportunity to watch them for over an hour and the seem to keep squaring up to each other, kind of raising up on their hind legs, and strutting around wagging their backsides with all the hair on their backs spikey. One stays in the bedroom area of the hutch and the other in a log tunnel. Then they kind of run out at each other...

What's that all about?

The sexy bum wiggle (rumbestrutting) is a dominance behaviour between boars that's basically saying "Look at what a big strong chap I am don't mess with me!" as @pig in the city has already mentioned they are trying to sort out hierarchy between themselves. When a boar does the sexy bum wiggle to a sow he is saying "Look what a big strong handsome chap I am, do you fancy me?"

Even though they're two years old and have lived together since they were a few weeks old? I'm looking into separating them with a couple of ladies each...

A change of home or environment can trigger a change in behaviour in boars. I think you said you got them a month ago? I have had pairs of boars coming into rescue who fall out even though they have been together for years.
Just because they are rumbling at each other doesn't mean they are stressed and unhappy. However l am sure they would love a girlie each!

I don't need much encouragement to get more pigs...

I love reading some of your posts and the cute images you give in the kind, informative way. Much appreciated when learning and loving these babies; especially newbies uch as myself :-). Always leaves me smiling.

Boy are you talking to the right people lol! I think everyone on this forum can go easily with this sentence :-)

Evening all (yes, it's late but I work shifts)!

I thought you'd appreciate an update.

I now have my neutered boar Woody beautifully bonded with a sow, Jessie and my big neutered Himalayan boar Buzz has two lady friends, Hattie and Willow!

Separate family homes, obviously.
I'm delighted! And the boys seem very content. I'd never seen either of them popcorn before! 😁
Happy days! x

Aww this is lovely! So pleased you've managed two bonded groups!

My two boys have been together since birth, and always rumblestrut, hump and chin-shove, it's quite funny when one starts and the other just isn't bothered.. Then when they both do and start pinwheeling around!

Welcome to your new piggies!
