Hi
When we introduce a new food/hay how long do we need to wait in order to know that it is ok? So basically, if the poops will go soft because of the new food, will this be on the same day or the next day? I don't know how fast guinea pigs digest their food so sorry for asking what may seem a stupid question. We are on hay and pellets only at the moment due to soft poops so I have got to start introducing all the veg back again without the poops going soft again.

Poo output is 1-2 days behind so the poo they do today is from yesterday or the day before. But I’d they really don’t agree with it I think within the next 24 hours you’d possibly see soft poos.

Wait for confirmation from another member though!

You will usually notice a problem (diarrhea or bloating) within a few hours but definitely within 24 hours.

If you give a new food in just a small quantity in mix with other already accustomed foods then there is usually not a problem in my experience. The biggest problem are guinea pigs from a background that does not feed veg (including to the mothers), so the piggies don't have the gut biome to deal with it or feeding too much fresh grass all at once on an unprepared tummy.
