I have spent this week helping out a guinea pig rescue and I can tell you, I have always been in awe of the work you all do, but, having 'walked in your shoes' I am totally amazed at just what you have to contend with each day.

I have fed, watered, cleaned and cuddled tens of piggies this past week, got to know them all really well...who wheeks the loudest, who 'chatters' when I'm not quick enough, who hides when I approach and who almost falls out of their cages when I open the door! :))

I have scratches, little nibbles, hair EVERYWHERE, but I have never had so much fun! My back aches like you wouldn't believe, from lifting heavy sacks of food, bales of hay...and my trousers have had it from scrambling on the floor trying to catch escapees. What a week!

I have, however, fallen in love with two baby brothers, who I have to admit to cuddling! :x I did consider sneaking them out...;)

Anyway, a big shout out for all you rescues, you are stars!


On my return home today I thought I would have a quiet five minutes with Lola. She is the bottom of my girly pile, gets 'told off' a lot from her friends, so I wanted to give her a cuddle. She is the sweetest, most gentle piggy and so shy. Here are a couple of pics I got of her...

What an experience you had, we are so envious. :) We always have thought that Rescues walk on water. The work they do is nothing short of amazing... Thanks for sharing.. Your pigtures of gorgeous Lola, are.....drooldrooldrooldroolx)x)x)

What an amazing experience.

I know all of us appreciate rescues but most of us only hear the airy-fairy side of the tale. You are so lucky to have been able to spent time seeing just what goes on behind the scenes.

Thankyou to all the rescue workers and voluenteers out there.

We salute you.
 
Sounds like you had a fantastic time! I went to help out at my nearest rescue a few weeks ago and had a great time cleaning cages and bathing piggies! The hardest bit about it is resisting giving them all a forever home though, sigh!

Lola is gorgeous, she reminds me of my Dottie!
 
I feel that I should point out that I was on my own doing the whole routine thing, to cover for illness/holidays.

I had to literally do everything, with just myself for company... :( Well, myself and about 100 piggies! :))

When I locked up today, every piggy was accounted for and fed, watered and had loads of fresh hay. I even counted each one to make sure no-one had escaped! :(|)
 
Also, I have to admit to feeling kind of sorry for the piggies without a home of their own :(

I think that is why I spent a little time when I got home with mine.

Oh woweee, that's a lot of responsibility! :... I don't blame you for counting them all at the end!
 
Sounds like you had great fun.
I'd love a day out at a rescue to help.

Well done for helping out. Sounds like you had an ace time. Rescues do work so hard, I have the utmost respect for anyone who does it.

Thanks for the Lola pictures she is mega sweet x) love her flecks of ginger mixed in with the brown, she's really really pretty.

I probably will help out again if needed. This week has been so long and tiring on top of everything else, but extremely rewarding too. :(|)

I must catch up on my housework though...@)
 
Wow, what a week, i am so jealous, i would just love to do that! If there were any rescues near me i would offer my spare time in a flash.

Lola is just gorgeous, so pretty xx
