I'm looking for a new mate for my gp blackjack but what do i get, a boar or sow ? blackjack is 6mths old and his 2 mates have died and hes very lonely and depressed :... and how do i introduce them ? i was planning to bring them both indoors for winter.

Think a baby boar would be best, unless he is neutered. As Blackjack is still a baby himself, he may accept another baby quite easily.

It is best to introduce them somewhere neutral first then Blackjack won't be as territorial.

Sorry to hear about your other pigs. :(

Blackjack would probably best do with a baby boy. He is in the hormonal phase and needs to show right now that he's the most macho boy in the world, so a boar of equal or higher age is not a good idea. At his stage, the younger the better!

In order to live with a girl or two, you need to have Blackjack neutered. For that you better find as experienced a vet in neutering guinea pigs as you can (ask your local rescue who they can recommend). Cross gender pairings are generally very stable, as dominance is not so much a factor. You will have to weigh that against the risk of an operation and a wait of 4-6 weeks afterwards, before he can live safely with a sow.

I am very sorry that you have lost two piggies in quick succestion.
