First I wanted to say that I am already scheduling a Vet Exam because i'm leaving for a month and half with them (my two guinea pigs)and want to make sure they are in peach perfect health and to relieve any worries and have some other questions for the vet. They were both born in April, 2011.

My Red American has been sneezing , not every minuet or anything but I've been watching him carefully and he has a little bit of crust around his nose. How do you guys tell the difference between Allergies and URI? He runs around, eat and drinking , and chirping all loudly when he thinks i'm getting him snackies. I was going to weigh him but i packed it for when we go camping.

Also is a tiny amount of crustiness flakes around the eye normal? Such as like when we go to bed and wake up? Also my bedding is white shavings, i looked it up before i bought it and it said its kiln dried. But i am going to switch and try fleece, just wanted to make sure they weren't nibblers and going to eat the material.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!

hiyah, i think you are doing the right thing by going to the vets, the two could be related and it is better to be safe than sorry, i would always get sneezy, crusty things checked out.

Hope they both get a clean bill of health and i hope you enjoy your trip where ever it is you are going camping x

they may nibble at the hemming but not the fabric itself with fleece. Mine have had all the loose bits like thread and labels but the fleece is intact!

Shavings may well be the source/cause of the sneezing and crustiness. Hope you can find an answer quickly!

I hope everything is okay too! i have a top level for their c&c cage and i put a fleece up there to test out but haven't had any problems so far just them testing out areas but never saw any thread. Not going too far just like 2 hours away from where i live for fishing / camping!

Thanks again for the prompt Replies!

Oh and i was wondering as far as bathing ; how often do most of you with long haired bathe them?

I only do mine when i absolutely have to, but his hair isnt really THAT long, and i do trim it too. Having said that, sometimes he drags his bum through that much stuff he is disgusting! :)) doh :))

YAH! These are my first two Guinea pigs and I tried getting two Long Haired, but am glad i didn't haha. The first thing Frits(long haired) does was sit /drag in a puddle of pee and i had to blow dry him lol. Anyways So i guess just wash them when they start smelling pretty bad? I wish there was a easier way to trim their stomach hair!
